The New Faces of MV1

A look into MV1 by Chris Hatfield

MV1 (Marvel Volume One) has been many things in its three year existence. They were one of the first fan fiction sights on the web to create a charter detailing writers responsibilities. Also MV1 became one of the first to break it's titles into separate branches, assigning "Branch Editors" over each branch and their respective titles. But MV1 has been anything but small.

With well over ninety ongoing series, anthologies, and limited series many feel MV1 has outgrown itself. Certainly Randy Lander, Branch Editor of the Four Corners Branch feels this way.

"To be completely honest...yes. We've got open titles that no one seems to have interest in, and an enormous amount of titles. Not even the most dedicated MV1 fan couldpossibly read everything. While I don't think we're at a catastrophe point (yet), I do think we need to either consolidate or improve our structure (ideally both) or the thing will collapse under its own weight.

"Thankfully, MV1 has always been a place that is open to change, such as with the charter, which has been an enormous help. So I'm not overly worried about the size, since I know we can change and adapt to handle it."

But others disagree. One writer who asked that we not use his or her name had this to say:

"I don't think that it matters how many titles we have. Nobody has to read everything on MV1, just what they like. I think most readers are turned off by coming to a sight that only has a few titles, not a lot. As long as we keep control of our character appearances and try to keep a reasonable continuity, we'll do all right."

But whether you feel MV1 has gotten too big or not, one thing that has never changed is the desire for new writers to create a name for themselves in MV1. Recently MV1 had a number of new writers who have created revolutionary new series, given old characters new direction, and become part of the MV1 community.

We recently sat down and talked to each of these new writers. We learned about them, their books, and what they have in store down the road.

The new writers of MV1 are:

So where do these writers compare to MV1 overall? Randy Lander isn't saying but he did say this:

"I hate to compare, because I think every group that has come through has had their bright new stars. But overall, I'd say we've got a good group of new writers. I don't think MV1 is in danger of running out talent anytime soon."

So while these new writers continue their path making names for themselves in the Fan-Fic world, only one question remains. Who be part of the next generation?
