The New Faces of MV1: Sam Everett

Jason Snyder - Francisco Araujo da Costa - Jason Kenney
Shawn Connolly - Al Ritter - Paulo Costa

HEROES: Tell us a little about yourself in 30 words or less.

Sam Everett: Well, I'm the best looking man in the Western Hemisphere (they say Jet Li is the best looking in the Eastern). I like to write, read comics, and watch basketball.

H: How did you find MV1?

SE: Just snooping around the famous Avengers Assemble site by Van Plexico, I saw it had a fanfic area. I had an Avengers maxi I'd been working on, and got in contact with a couple of editors at MV1.

H: One of your first projects in MV1 was a large 12 issue What IF? Tell us little bit about this.

SE: This project came up in August of '98, before I even knew about MV1. Everyone was still complaining that Black Widow had not reformed the Avengers in the wake of Onslaught, so I took it upon myself to explain how she did, and why it's been a secret for so long, in a series I called AVENGERS: THE MISSING YEAR. While it's found a home in WHAT IF...?, I'm trying very hard to make it able to fit in the "real" Marvel Universe. If you read carefully, you'll find that it does.

H: You recently took over "Black Panther," tell us how you see the character.

SE: My perception of the Panther--that he is perhaps the most noble man in the MV1 Universe, and would do ANYthing for the greater good--will drive the series. You can see an example of this in my first issue, #11, when T'Challa impersonates a dying woman's husband simply to keep her alive. In short, he's just about the most trustworthy, honorable person I can think of.

H: Can you give us some idea about what to expect in "Black Panther?"

SE: What happens when Wakanda finally falls? BP has had a plethora of writers in its short existence at MV1, and it seems each of them has placed Wakanda in danger, but the fabled nation-state has survived every time. Using a brand new villainous force--her heart set on taking T'Challa's kingdom, and then the world--Wakanda is going down. That'll give me the chance to explore T'Challa's character even more, as he does some pretty drastic things to take his homeland back, and win the day.

H: Can you give us some info about your latest project "Teen Brigade?"

SE: I keep describing it as MTV's "Real World" meets "The Truman Show" and "American Gladiators". Six teens are given power suits by a television network, under the impression that they are fighting real life bad guys. However, the truth is that the network has everything rigged, so the teens are really fighting for ratings.

Of course, something will go wrong >:D

H: Are there any books on MV1 that you want to get a chance to write?

SE: I keep looking long and hard at X-MEN, and it isn't dibbed after Shawn Connolly's run, so that's tempting. IRON MAN has always appealed to me as well, but really I want to slow down and focus on my current projects.
