Well, here we go. I didn't do one of these earlier this month, so I'll do one at the end. And, hey, maybe I'll mention fanfic, maybe I won't, we will see.
Yawn, stretch, it's 1 in the p.m. and I'm just getting up. Ah, the good life. It's the 10th of January and this is the most sleep I've gotten all year. Hell, I think it's more sleep than I've gotten all year put together. Ah, that felt good.
But, since the New Year, I've woken up elsewhere too. In fanfiction (look, it's on topic!!!!).
I got into this thing over a year ago, met these groups about a year ago now, and some of you know how I started out. I wanted to do everything. I was writing X-Corps for Visions, I wanted MAgneto at MX, I wanted whatever series I could get at MV1, I was writing Hellblazer at FDC, I was churning out stories on Outside the Lines (a great mailing list, by they way, let me know if you want more info on it), I was everywhere. Then, I realized something.
I had no clue what I was getting myself into.
A year later I'm still writing what was supposed to have been a 12 issue maxi-series for Visions, but I'm only 6 issues into it, I never finished Hellblazer, I never finished those OTL projects, I have MV1 Saga at MV1 but haven't put much effort into it for a while, had and dropped Captain America there, got Cap at MX and immedeately picked up a writer and co-plotter (which I'm glad I did, cause Jim Johnston's kickin ass and forgetting the names on that book) picked up and dropped Huntress at FDC, hmmm....let's see....what else.... oh, and I'm now long-term X-Men writer at MX. So, I went from five series at my peak to just 2 writing and one co-plotting.
Somewhere in there I started HEROES, which I'm still doing.
Wow, am I reliable or what? :)
But, here's what I woke up and realized.
I'm taking on way to damn much. Yep, between HEROES, school, work, other real life adventures, and the little writing commitments I still have, I have little to no time to do much of anything else. So, I'm not taking on anymore projects other than what I'm into until I finish one or more of them. (I say this now, but watch a book I really want open up and see if I keep this promise.) Now, I have an indie-group project I'm working on, so that fits in here, so if you see an indie group pop up with my name on it while I'm still working on these projects, this is the exception, I'm already working on it.
So, okay, let's see, here's what I'm doing.
X-Corps for Visions (I need to finish issues 7-12 before that run is done)
X-Men for Marvel-X (we're brainstorming kick ass ideas there, so this may take a while)
Captain America at MX co-plotting (Jim does all of the work already, so this is handled)
MV1 Saga (which I'll do as I get time or allow others to do. Sam Everett has an ish that I need to get out there)
HEROES (which I'm thinking ending my run at eventually, but we'll see...)
my indie project (I'm being purposefully coy here so I can seriously hype it in the near future)
And I think that's it for now.
Okay, I'm done, remind me of this promise if you see me starting to go over my head again, it'd be easier on all of us, right? Yeah.
