Here's goodbye to the roses and plums,
To warm clear nights and pool party fun,
The leaves will turn and drop by the score,
Lingering sunsets will soon be no more,
The birds have all flown, grown dim are my eyes,
Darkness o'ertakes me and soon I will die,
So light me a bonfire, a glorious pyre,
To help me rekindle my youthful desire,
Let the flames leap up tall to the sky,
To guide me as on the wing I shall fly,
Fly far and away to the utter West,
Where I will find the sweet land of Rest,
I shall curl up on the good Lady's lap,
There I will close my eyes and will nap,
And I'll dream until my dreaming is done,
Returning next year, in the spring, with the Sun.
