Superhombre Nº1, 10 January 1950

"Superhombre" Nº1, 10 January 1950, published by Muchnik Editores, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The first issue of a magazine destined to be very popular in both sides of the River Plate..., at least until the colored and "complete" Mexican ones gained the preference of young (and not so young) readers... This mag had black and white printing, except for the two center pages and the cover. The paper was very ordinary, but we liked it more than the "slick" ones used today... The magazine featured stories of "Superman" (called "Superhombre" in Spanish, for they didn't want English titles those years; the same occurred with the magazine of Walt Disney's Donald Duck, which ran the subtitle "El pato Donaldo", to put things straight...), and also of other DC characters, like Batman (called "Murciélago in the first years), Tomahawk (called "Hacha Brava"), Congo Bill, and others. The size was big (20 x 26 cm), but the magazine was rather thin, since the stories were all two-pagers, with the "to be continued..." line in their last panel. Years later, though, the stories were given in full, but with panels re-arranged to make them shorter in pages. All in all, it was an enjoyable magazine, as well as the "vacation" annuals that were also published.
