El Capitán Marvel, Nº7, April 1953

El Capitán Marvel was published by "Ediciones Recreativas", Mexico, the version in Spanish of "Captain Marvel Adventures" (Fawcett Publications, USA). "Captain Marvel", drawn by C. C. Beck and scripted by Bill Parker, Otto Binder and a staff of artist and writers, was the most serious rival to the supremacy of "Superman" in the '40s. While similar to the Man of Steel in the basic concept of superhuman powers, "Capt. Marvel" was entirely different in development, being more fun-oriented and less based in science than in classic mythos. As a matter of fact, the famous word "Shazam!", which turned the newsboy Billy Batson into the powerful red-caped adult, rigther of wrongs, was formed by the initials of the names of "six immortal figures of Antiquity": Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achiles and Mercury, each providing a superhuman attribute for the hero's power. The Cap, or the "Red Cheese", as he was irrespectfully called by his foe, the villanous Dr. Sivana, was always cheerful and good natured. (Of course, he couldn't survive after the '50s.)
There is just one Captain, and that's me !
