"Enigmas de Ultratumba"
Nº2. Probably a Spanish version of "Adventures into Darkness", of
Better/Standard Publications of USA, published in Mexico by Editorial Proteo,
which was also the publisher of the remarkable "Mundos Fantásticos".
An excellent comic book devoted to the horror genre, it sported the work
of superb artists and was also graced by intelligent, imaginative scripts,
the whole stuff high above average. This issue (which is curiously listed
as "Nº12" in the inside credits) was
obviously the 2nd., as is correctly stated on the cover. Its contents are:
"El Barco Fantasma" ("Ghost Ship"), the work of Alex Toth & staff;
"El Secreto Uno" (A bad Spanish translation of the original title, "The
Secret One"), by Jack Katz; "El Deseo de la Bruja" ("Witch's Wish" -the
original title can be barely discerned under the Spanish translation),
also by Katz; and "El Vendedor de la Muerte" ("Death Seller"), by Rocco
Mastroserio, whose nom-de-plume, Rocke, is visible on the splash panel. The
four stories are fine examples of competence in the comic field: "Better"
Publications was really up to its name... A curious item of this issue
is the one-page filler "Requiem", which tells the anecdote of the requiem
written by Mozart before his death, an episode used in the famous 1984
"Amadeus" film of Milos Forman. A detail which makes this comic book even
more valuable for collectors...
