Pavor, Vol.1, Nº1, October 1st., 1953

"Pavor", Vol.1, Nº1, October 1st., 1953. Published by Export Newspaper Service in New York, but distributed in Mexico and Latin America. This was the Spanish version of "Web of Evil", an horror mag published by the Quality group, of "Blackhawk" and "Plastic man" fame. This was their only horror comic, and, while it was far below the level of quality (no irony intended) of such notable examples of the genre as were Harvey's "Witches Tales" or Better/Standard's "Adventures into Darkness", "Web" contained some fine stuff, especially the one which featured the refreshing and fluid art of Jack Cole (best known by his aforementioned brainchild, "Plastic Man"). This particular cover seems to have been graced, instead, by the gifted hand of Reed Crandall (who was also responsible for some of the best "Blackhawk" art). The mags of the Quality seal, incidentally, had always good covers, even if some interior art was much below those standards, in more cases than should have been desirable...
