We'll begin with a Master
(if unfairly forgotten by comic historians, in my opinion he was deservedly
one of the greatest): Bob Powell. He was as versatile as he was amazing,
but he excelled in the horror genre, although he tried everything, from
western to war, to jungle, to Sci-Fi. This is the splash page of "La Bruja
de las Montañas" ("The Witch of the Mountains"), which appeared
in "Cuentos de Brujas" Nº2 (October 1951), the Spanish version
of Harvey's "Witches Tales", published in Mexico (with distribution in
all Latin America) by Editora de Periódicos "La Prensa". The striking
composition of the page, the suggestion of the character portrayed and
the general "effect" of Powell's strong personal style, makes this a masterful-rendered
cover of the period, very covetable as a collector's piece. Don't you think
so?
