"Selva" Nº 37, November 1st., 1955

Well, fellows fans, time to take your hats off! We're going to behold the work of one of the true Masters of Comics... From "Selva" Nº 37, November 1st., 1955 (the Spanish-translated version of "Thun'da" Nº1) published by Export Newspaper Service of New York, and distributed in Latin American countries, I've selected four of the superb pages made by Frank Frazetta, one of the most seeked Post-Golden Age artists. Besides, this particular comic book bears the distinction of being the ONLY ONE the gifted comic-maker ever made in its full contents, that is, both cover and interior art. (You may look for the cover in Benny's site, Mexican section). Let's begin in the middle of the book, with the splash page of the third story, "Cuando la Tierra Tembló" ("When Earth Shook"). We have a splendid rendering of the hero beside his saber-toothed tiger companion, both impressing by their noble countenance. In fact, a kind of nobility instilled in all his characters is a Frazetta trade-mark. His dominion of both human and bestial shapes gives his panels that unique flavor which surely places his art over average. There's also a magnificent sense of rhythm and motion, which will be yet more evident in the complementary six-panel pages I chose for this gallery. Keep in contact!
