There is such a national organization whose consist of hundreds perguruans.  Besides, there is national organization which does not have or has not had yet any members.  For instance, IPSI (The Indonesian Pencak Silat Association) has more than 800 Pencak Silat perguruans as its members, which spread in 27 provinces, while Philsilat (the Philippine Pencak Silat Association), founded in the end of 1990, has not yet had any members.

The national organization of Pencak Silat has written statutes and rules composed or consented by the whole members together.  In the text it is written among others the relationship characteristic between the perguruan and their national organization.  There is also found written norm which compels the perguruan to adapt the national organization's statutes and rules into their own ones.

Basically, the national organization of Pencak Silat has 3 objectives in one unity, that is:

1.To develop its members and to look after their unity.

2.To coordinate and lead its members dealing with its efforts to perpetuate, develop and socialize Pencak Silat and its values.

3.To make Pencak Silat and its values as a means to build up good quality of humankind, mental-spiritually and physically.

The national organization of Pencak Silat is the Pencak Silat organization which is recognized by mostly Pencak Silat perguruans in their country, as the only organization which has legal right to deal with everything connected with Pencak Silat nationally.  This right will be sturdier if it is recognized officially by the authorized body/institution on such a thing in its country.

The national organization of Pencak Silat found in many different countries nowadays have different status, some of them are recognized officially and the others are not recognized yet by the national authorized body in their countries.  Even, there is country which has not established yet its national organization though there are Pencak Silat perguruans in that country.

The status of the national organizations of Pencak Silat in different countries is of the same level.  Dealing with the effort to obtain their objectives, they can arrange bilateral or multilateral relation and cooperation.

The organizational structure and the management of national organization of Pencak Silat are conformed with among others the needs or the spread of the dwelling-places of its perguruan members.  For example, IPSI (Indonesia) has an organization of Central echelon, the lst Regional Administrative Unit (Province), the 2nd Regional Administrative Unit (District) and Sub-district Administrative Unit.  Even, there are its representative organizations in other countries.

Commisariat Executive Board (abroad).  The Commissariat Executive Board is in charge of representing or managing the interest of IPSI in other countries.
