by Robert Longden
An
adaptation of the fifties classic film of the same name. It chronicles the
rise and rise of a young northern coal miner who was London's greats Music
Hall comic, George Leybourne. Stitched into this Victorian melodrama,
Longden cleverly offers all the great sing-a-long music hall choruses
which transform the event into a Dickensian karaoke. With a raft of
eccentric, but mainly young, cast of characters, here is a new populist
entertainment that will seduce both young and old into a long lost world
lovingly and inventively created.
