Anthony Chan Yau

Anthony Chan Yau established himself in the entertainment industry as the drummer for the popular 1970s rock act, The Wynners. Like band mates Kenny Bee and Alan Tam Wing Lung, he established himself as an actor shortly after they called it quits in 1980. Unlike Bee or Tam, Chan did not have good looks to propel him to leading man status. Using his sense of humor, he carved a niche for himself as a comedian. By the mid 1980s Chan had moved into the director's chair, further displaying his sense of sentimental humor with films like; TO ERR IS HUMAN (1987), A FISHY STORY (co-starring his band mate Kenny Bee, 1986), and the brilliant MY AMERICANIZED WIFE (1992). Chan & his Wynners compatriots didn't take themselves too seriously, and throughout the 80s took pleasure in poking fun at what made them famous, as exemplified in Jackie Chan's THE ARMOUR OF GOD (1986), where Chan, Alan Tam, and Kenny Bee pop up alongside Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam, Jackie Chan, and Carina Lau Kar Ling, lip-synching their hit, "(I'll Give You) L-O-V-E Love," as "The Losers." Anthony is currently in semi-retirement, having just completed a final tour with The Wynners in 1998.
