Most of these pictures were captioned by Arne & Nancy's daughter Kristin, so I am not going to write too much, letting the pictures do all the talking as much as possible. The Hansen trip to Norway took place June 1998.

Rakne Leikarringen in Jessheim
On June 20th we rejoined our arctic circle tour group and newly arriving Texas dancers at welcome party where Texas guests and host families were introduced. Our hosts were Unni and Knut Nordby, who were pig farmers. They didn't speak English, so visiting was challenging, but at group events there was always a translator nearby.
The agenda was appropriately reflected in the motto for our stay:
"You can sleep when you retire, if you are not already (re)tired.
So we set off for ten days of fellowship and fun, with music, dancing, special meals, and a full itinerary of sightseeing.

On midsummer's day, we gathered with Rakne Leikarringen at Romerike Folkehogskole (folk school) for a brief folkdance workshop and long rehearsal. In the evening, we returned to this lakeside setting in our bundads to join about 300 others for an old-fashioned Midtsommerfesten. Children played games or wove flowers into wreaths for their heads, while meat was prepared on grills to accompany the picnic dinners brought by host families. Both Rakne Leikarringen and NST Leikarringen performed after dinner. Our finale was a version of Cotton-eyed Joe. - by Eudoris Dahl
