Austrått Fort
(MKB Örlandet),
with one triple 28 cm. SK C/34 gun turret, turret "Caesar", from the German battleship
Gneisenau.
Turret restored and converted to museum, together with the underground
tunnel system. The turret is the only part of Gneisenau's structure that remains in the world,
apart from the armoured shield of turret "Bruno" at MKB Fjell west of Bergen, which still lies next to the turretshaft, cut up in big pieces.
shaft after "Bruno" was cut to scrap in 1968. I took the photos, you'll find them at Atlantikwall Website. Austrått Fort,
further information and history. (Norwegian).
If you want to see a scale model of MKB Fjell,
the tumbnails on that page shows a detailed model of "the strongest fortress of the Atlantikwall in Northern Europe."
When looking at the scale model of the tunnel-system, remember it is much more extensive than shown here.
It is only the part of the tunnels that is preserved as a museum that are scaled. There was built over 3 km. of tunnels in the rock around the turret shaft.
