So, you're probably wondering what it's like working for the Smorgasbord. Well, I'd say that most of creators (myself include) are not absolute despots. Well, not always. As Producer I do not expect anyone to generate an enormous amount of work in a short time. It's quality not quantity that counts here. I only require illustrators to commit to doing approximately ten pages at a time. I understand that you've all got lives outside of comics. (Well, maybe not everyone.) I also understand that some of you may never have drawn a comic book before in your life. That's alright. I and my associates can give you almost any advice or help you need. So, what's in it for you? If you are selected to illustrate then we both sign a contract. The contract promises that your work will be published. That means that your work will be seen all over the country and possibly even the world. But in addition the contract guarantees you a percentage of profit from that publication. Since we are a new company we are offering an extremely generous percentage (95% of profit is divided between the illustrators and writers and 5% to the editor 0% to the Producer :() In the future we'll pay the standard rate per page rather than offering a portion of profits but for now we decided that this method is best. But really, I'm sure nobody's doing this just for the money. We're not. ApplicationThere's just two things to do: 1. Submit a representative portfolio (copies only) of your best work. 2. Complete an art test for the series you are interested in illustrating. The Portfolio Representative portfolios should not be bigger than ten pages. In a sentence what we're looking for is a good sense of composition, a grasp of anatomy and perspective and a certain offbeat unique style of your own. Also submit a variety of different work- work demonstrating all the different styles you are capable of. If you're a penciler submit penciled drawings. If you're an inker submit inked drawings. If you're a colorist submit something you've colored. The Art Test The art test is a good way for us to see whether an artist's style is suited to a particular series. The art test can be obtained right here (click here) or you can request a printed copy by mail by sending a copy of your representative portfolio and your address to Smorgasbord Productions. Send to the snail mail address or email address below. So, if you're up to the challenge drop us a line. -DKN-
