ourism in Petrosani is just developing. The communist government did not encourage this kind of activity and private enterprise was forbidden in those days.

After 1989 Romania became a widely open touristic attraction. The region of Petrosani has a remarkable natural potential particularly owing to the Parang and Retezat Mountains.

Tourism largely intensified during the last years: there are 40 accomodation units of various categories that can be found up to 1700 metres. Among them many hotels and motels. Most of them were built recently, and only a few of them approach western standard.

One of the major interests of this zone is practicing winter sports. It is also a beautiful place to walk or mountain bike in the mountains.
