  4. Hansil, Jared Sr., and Jared Jr. Handley were in Burke Co., 1805 GA Land Lottery
  5. Jared Sr. settled in Fayette County through the Land Lottery of 1821, which would make him 29-30. Creeks ceded the land on January 8, 1821 and Fayette was one of the original counties created in May 1821. A portion of what would be the metro area of Atlanta was in it. My guess is that they moved into the area between May 1821 and January 1822, the time of the first election. It was interesting to go the the Atlanta History Center because they have clothes and trappings from the period when the Atlanta area was first settled. They also pipe in sounds from GA forests. For a moment, I got a sense of what it was like to live during that time. Leigh
