Shuuhei and Sarah
Right: Shuuhei and Sarah
Intro:  This is a love story between Sarah(Seara) and Shuuhei. I jumped in at the end of Volume 6 approximately, so I'm missing a lot, but this is what the scene is as far as I can tell.  Seara, who is currently living with her best friend's(Koharu) family, has been in love with Koharu's brother, Shuuhei, since she was a child.  Shuuhei had a previous girlfriend, but by Part 30, he and Sarah are going out.  Sarah shows her affection more than Shuuhei, so it often seems like Sarah cares more about their relationship.  In the current story arc, a classmate of Shuuhei's, Yuki, likes Sarah and is trying to win her from Shuuhei.  He wouldn't be very successful except Sarah and Shuuhei are having trouble communicating their feelings and trusting each other.

Part 30(February 1998):  in February a new character(Yuki) who knew Shuuhei from before appeared since it's a new school year.  Shuuhei didn't recognize him though, and he got kind of annoyed.  Also, a new girl, Rima, is interested in Shuuhei.  She seems like the manipulative type.
Left: Yuki
Part 31 (March 1998): Yuki gives a package to some guy in return for some money, and Shuuhei asks what it Yukiis.  It's an "ecchi video".  Seara wants to buy a present for Shuuhei, but doesn't have enough money.  When she's out with Koharu(Shuuhei's little sister and her best friend) a man says he'll pay her to be a model. But when they get there, it's a lingerie shot!   Yuki comes in and can tell that Seara is too young to be there legally.  He asks for her and Koharu's names, and they give fake ones.Later, Shuuhei remembers that he met Yuki at a basketball tournament before, while Rima and Yuki watch Seara and Shuuhei at a tea shop, and Yuki remembers Seara from before.  He tells Rima that he'll help her break Seara and Shuuhei up, and Rima's happy, because in middle school he was known as the 'Couple Crusher'.
Part 32 (April 1998): Shuuhei and Seara go out, and Shuuhei goes off somewhere for a few minutes.  Yuki appears and calls Seara by her fake name, and then Shuuhei comes back.  Yuki hangs around, saying things that make both Shuuhei and Seara really uncomfortable.  All three are sitting at a table when Shuuhei goes to get some food.  Seara asks if he'll tell Shuuhei anything, and tells Yuki that she thought the job was normal modeling.  Then Yuki tries to make Seara think that he's homosexual, but he's just joking.  Seara is getting really mad when Shuuhei comes back, and Yuki gets up to leave. Before he goes, he gives Shuuhei a kiss on the cheek, freaking him out.  After he's gone, Shuuhei asks Seara if she knew Yuki before and she says no, but Shuuhei isn't entirely sure.  Seara feels really bad, but doesn't know what to do.
Parts 33-34(May-June 1998), Sara goes to Shuuhei's school to check up on Shuuhei.  She's in disguise there, and she's talking to Yuki when Shuuhei comes along.  Yuki pretends to kiss Sara to hide her, and after Shuuhei leaves he tries to really kiss her, but Sara pushes him away and after she stomps off, Yuki is surprised because he didn't have to pretend that he wanted to kiss her.  That night, Shuuhei tries to kiss Sarah but she pushes him away, because she thought of Yuki for a second. Later, Rima tries to invite Shuuhei to a really exclusive concert, but he refuses because Sara would be jealous.  Sara tells him he can go but he has to tell Rima very clearly that he only likes Sarah and has no interest in her.  Sarah is waiting outside the concert for Shuuhei when Yuki shows up and they start talking.  Yuki tells Sara about his past love life, how he always envied his friends' then he found out how faithless they were.  Then Sara says someday he'll find his 'true love' so he shouldn't worry, becuase hw's still young.  When Rima and Shuuhei come out, she and Sara have a little faceoff and then Sara and Shuuhei leave before Shuuhei can find out what's going on with Yuki and Sara.  Yuki invites Sara to the beach even though Shuuhei didn't want her to go.

Part 35 (July 1998): Shuuhei's dad says it's okay, and Koharu also ends up going as a chaperon.  When Koharu meets Yuki again, they get along much better than Sarah and Yuki.  One of the other people there mentions Ayano, Shuuhei's former girlfirend, and when Yuki asks Sarah about it, she starts crying.  Then Shuuhei comes but Sarah says she's crying because of some onions.  Shuuhei takes her outside and shows her the view, and Sarah thinks that this would be a good moment for a first kiss, but instead Shuuhei gives her some pink shells.
KoharuRight: Koharu
Part 36 (August 1998): Sara, Shuuhei, Yuki, and Rima are at a beach for a holiday.  Yuki just cut his hair because Sara told him he would look better that way, and Shuuhei is starting to think he has some feelings for Sara.  Rima is thinking of giving up on Shuuhei, because she sees how happy he looks with Sara, but Yuki doesn't want her to.  Yuki gives Sara a pink shell, which people give to the people they like, but when Sara makes a weird face because she's figured it out, Yuki says Shuuhei told him to give it to her.  Shuuhei sees the two of them together on the beach and asks Yuki later how things are going with the girl he was kissing before, which makes Yuki crack up because it was Sara(they weren't really kissing, Yuki was hiding her from Shuuhei).  Then Shuuhei asks Yuki straight out what he wants with Sara, and reminds Yuki that he made her cry before.  Yuki says the one that causes Sara all her worries is Shuuhei, that she doesn't think her happiness with him will last, because going out with him is to good to be true.  Shuuhei thinks about that later alone, when Rima comes in followed by some guy who won't leave her alone, until Shuuhei asks him if he's bothering his friend, Rima.  Then Rima's depressed because she's tall and guys always make a big deal of it, and Shuuhei tells her they're just jealous, and that she should have more self-confidence.  Then Rima asks Shuuhei to kiss her!  She says that if he just kisses her once, she'll give up on him.  A little later, Sara's walking down the hall and runs into Rima(actually, she runs into a door, but anyways) and Rima's blushing.  Then Shuuhei walks in, also blushing.  Sara thanks him for the shell, and Shuuhei asks her what she means, and Sara figures out that Yuki lied about the shell being from Shuuhei.  She doesn't tell Shuuhei, but just pretends she made a mistake.
Sara finds Yuki later and tries to return the shell, asking why he did it and saying that receiving things like that from guys other than Shuuhei doesn't make her happy.  Yuki gets mad and rips her necklace off, throwing it in the sea.  Sara also gets mad, and runs off to try to find it in the ocean.  Then Yuki gives it back to her-he had never really thrown it, he just threw the shell.  Sara slaps him, and yells that she hates him.

Part 37 (September 1998): Sarah runs away from Yuki and into the house.  She meets Koharu.  Yuki comes, bringing Sarah's clothes.  Sarah says she won't forgive him even if he apologizes, and Yuki says he's not apologizing.  He leaves, and Koharu says that's a terrible way to behave.  Sarah says isn't it, and starts complaining, but Koharu says not Yuki, you.  She says Sarah never notices anyone but Shuuhei, and so doesn't realize how many people she hurts.  In another room, Yuki's angry so Rima decides not to talk to him just now about the kiss.  Koharu tells Sarah that Yuki probably cut his hair because of her, and Sarah is thinking hard about it, but then she collapses with a fever.  Shuuhei brings her to a bedroom, and Yuki tells him it was probably his fault, and tells Shuuhei what happened outside.  Shuuhei punches him, and then goes to sit by Sarah.  Then Rima talks to Yuki about one-sided love, and pretty much says that she gives up on Shuuhei, but Yuki says he doesn't think that what they were doing was futile.  Yuki admits that he likes Sarah for real, and Rima tells Yuki that she promised she would give up on Shuuhei if he kissed her...

Part 38 (October 1998): Sarah buys Shuuhei a watch and something else for his birthday present, and plans to make him a big surprise dinner and birthday cake.  Shuuhei has a basketball tournament another day(the next?), so she brings him a lunch, but meets Yuki on the way.  He apologizes for acting like a kid before and tells her to call him "Yuki".  Shuuhei comes and is mad at Yuki because of the pendant, but Sarah said he apologized.  Then Rai comes, and Sarah thinks he's such a nice person especially compared to Yuki.
Shuuhei is watching Rai play basketball, when Rima asks him if he knows him.  He says yes, and she asks how tall he is, and asks to be introduced to him.  She says she doesn't like it, but she understands that Shuuhei won't be taken away from Sarah and has decided to look for another "honey" ^_^.  She's a bit upset when Shuuhei says she's not his type, and that he likes girls like Sarah.  Sarah's watching them talk from the stands, and is wondering what they're talking about.  Then she turns and finds Yuki watching her from a higher seat, and thinks that he was different today than usual.
On Sunday, Shuuhei's birthday, Shuuhei goes out for a bit and meets Rai.  They hang out for a while, Shuuhei forgetting how his mother reminded him to come home early.  Rai tells him that he was dumped because he never had time to see his girlfriend or call her, and says Shuuhei's lucky that his girlfriend's always right there when he goes home.  He tells Shuuhei to introduce him to a nice girl like Sarah, and Shuuhei says actually, there was a girl at the tournament who liked him, but her style is a lot different.  Rai says he does't care, and asks Shuuhei to call her up, even though Shuuhei says she has a few personality problems.
When he finally gets home, his mother and sister make him realize what day it is(he forgot his own birthday!!!) and what he missed.  He goes in to apologize to Sarah, saying that he saw Rai, and she accepts.  The next day, she's waiting for him when she meets Rima.  Rima wants to tease her and tells her to thank Shuuhei for her for yesterday.  This shocks Sarah, and she's sitting and thinking dark thoughts when Yuki comes upon her.  He asks what's wrong and she tells him, and he tells her that Rima and Shuuhei kissed.  Sarah doesn't want to believe him, but...Yuki hugs her and tells her she should stop seeing Shuuhei if it's causing her pain, when Shuuhei comes around the corner and sees them.

Part 39 (November 1998): Yuki told Seara that Shuuhei kissed Rima, and she starts crying.  Yuki comforts her and holds her, and Shuuhei finds them like that.  He takes Seara away and I think they have a fight, and Seara leaves, returning to her old home, where her cousin currently lives.  Shuuhei comes after her, but sh e doesn't return with him.  The next day at school, Shuuhei tells Yuki to give up on Seara, and Yuki says he never will, and that Shuuhei is the one that's making her miserable.  While Seara it school, Yuki goes over to her house and is there when she gets home, which she is not happy about.  Then Yuki tells her he wants to share a great love with her(not make love, I think).
Part 40 (December 1998): Seara tells Yuki that she thinks that if she did start to return his feelings, he would lose interest in her like he did when he liked his best friend's girlfriend.  Yuki says there's only one way to find out, for her to fall in love with him and see what happens.  Seara says that Shuuhei is the only one for her, and Yuki says if Shuuhei and she are meant for each other, why did she lie to him, deceive him, and why did she allow herself to be hugged by Yuki?  Seara doesn't have a good comeback for this, but still doesn't like Yuki.  Later in some store, Koharu's boyfriend sees Seara and Yuki together, because Yuki is pestering her.  Seara tells him to leave her alone.  At home, she tells her cousin not to let Yuki inside the house, but the next day he's there anyways.  We's there, Seara gets a call from Shuuhei, who apologizes for the other day, but Seara isn't listening to him because Yuki comes up behind her and embraces her!  So she hangs up on Shuuhei, who is pissed off that his apology didn't do any good.  Back at Seara's, Yuki says he wants to cheer her up, and drags her to an amusement park.  While they're there(and Seara is having no fun), Rima sees and her new boyfriend(Shuuhei's friend) see them, leave quickly.  Shuuhei just got a call from his friend asking what is going on with Seara and another guy when Rima bursts in and apologizes, saying it's all her fault because she asked Yuki to break the two of them up.  Yuki and Seara are walking home, and Seara has finally smiled when they both notice Shuuhei in front of Sarah's house...
Part 41 (January 1999): Sarah thinks that no matter how you look at it, the situation looks like she's returning from a date with Yuki, and that there is no excuses she can make.  Shuuhei asks if the amusement park was fun, and is visibly angered.  He turns around and starts to walk away, saying it seems that he's not needed, and Sarah catches his arm and asks him not to misunderstand.  Shuuhei flicks her arm away and tells her to do as she pleases, and leaves.  Sarah is just standing stunned, and starts to cry like her heart is broken.  She asks herself(in her mind) what is she doing, first not believing in Shuuhei, being hurt that Shuuhei didn't believe in her , and running away(from Shuuhei's house).
The next day, Kotaru is talking at school with her boyfriend about the situation.  She says that probably Sarah didn't come to school today because of the fight with Shuuhei, but she doesn't know why Sarah's mad.  She says she's also worried about Yuki's behaviour.
On the roof of Shuuhei's school, Shuuhei is thinking when Yuki appears and comments how strange it is for Shuuhei to be skipping.  Shuuhei he's got some nerve to act normally around him, and says Yuki doesn't have the right to say anything to him.  Yuki agrees and says that last night he got Sarah to laugh.  He said he thought maybe he would get what we wanted but that Shuuhei crushed that hope in a moment.  He says that what he tried for days and days and to, Shuuhei can do in a second just by giving her a small shell, and that he can also put her into hell in the same second.  Yuki says that after Shuuhei walked away, Sarah started crying and crying, and couldn't even say anything.  Yuki says if he was the same as always, he would have taken total advantage of it, but seeing Sarah like that, he didn't want to, and says  that now he's really depressed.  He says that no matter how much Shuuhei hurts her or betrays her, it's always him that can move her.  Shuuhei remembers Sarah saying that for the past 5 years, all she's thought about was wanting to become a suitable girlfriend for him, and asks Yuki if he knows why Sarah is mad.  Yuki says he should find out from Rima.  When Shuuhei asks her, she says she told Sarah that Shuuhei took her on a date on Sarah's birthday.  Shuuhei asks her if she said anything else that she shouldn't have, and Rima says no, not to Sarah at least.  She admits that she told Yuki about the kiss though.  Shuuhei is going to go tell Sarah the truth at first, but then decides not to, since she had so little faith in him.
Sarah is in bed, thinking that even if she was betrayed she acted wrongly, and that her words and actions are different.  She thinks that now Shuuhei hates her.  Outside the bedroom, Sarah's cousin tells Yuki that she hasn't been eating at all, and Yuki is finding it hard to believe that Sarah is so broken-hearted that she won't eat at all.  Her cousin says Yuki has obviously never really loved someone, and asks Yuki if he's noticed Sarah's room.  He says every day it's becoming more like an ?individual's?  I don't really understand, but it seems to affect Yuki a lot.
At Shuuhei's house, Koharu is asking why Shuuhei doesn't go and get Sarah.  She says it's the third day that Sarah has stayed home from school, and says at this rate he might lose her to Yuki, since he's always there and is always kind to her.  Shuuhei says if their relationship is that weak, then fine, and tells Koharu to get out.  He looks at a desk picture of Sarah and remembers when she put it there, saying that she wanted him to think of her all the time.
Back in Sarah's room, Yuki opens the door and tries to get Sarah to wake up, noticing while he does it that she has about 5 pictures of Shuuhei on her mantel, but she's like a zombie.  He asks how long she's going to be like this, and why she can't see anything but Shuuhei.  He tells her to return to her real self and look around her, and see him.  Sarah whispers, "Shuu-chan...Shuu-chan?"  Yuki leaves the room, and Sarah falls back to bed in the same daze, wondering to herself how long it's been, thinking that time seems stopped to her, and wondering if she's going to die like this. She thinks that it's okay with her, if Shuuhei hates her then she has no reason to live, when she opens her eyes and sees, as in a dream, Shuuhei sitting beside the bed.  She hugs him and he tells her to start eating and go to school, this isn't like her.  Sarah asks if he hates her, and he says no, he loves her.  Sarah wonders if she's dreaming this, if it's a figment of her imagination, and then asks Shuuhei to embrace her one more time, which he does.  She thinks that even if it's a dream, she doesn't care, and falls to sleep for real.  Downstairs, Sarah's cousin apologizes to Shuuhei for calling, and says he wasn't intending to, but Sarah's condition was getting bad.  Shuuhei says no, he's glad he did.  When Sarah's cousin asks if he's not going to take her home, Shuuhei says he'll wait until she comes back by herself.  He says that he wants to believe in Sarah, and he wants her to believe in him.

Part 42 (February 1999):
When Sarah comes home from school, Yuki is there again and she's annoyed.  He's really happy because the old Sarah is back, and then asks if he's being dumped(if Sarah's going back to Shuuhei) Sarah doesn't answer but starts packing and Yuki says just give me one kiss.  Sarah says stop it, and is resisting him(he's kissing her on the head) when a tear falls on her upraised hand.  Yuki tells her to leave and not come back, or else he'll make her be his.  Sarah leaves, and Chihiro says something about even Yuki being able to really love someone, while upstairs Yuki thinks he doesn't care about love.  Sarah looks for Shuuhei and finds him at the basketball court.  She apologizes for going to the amusement park with Yuki, having fun, and forgetting about Shuuhei even for a second, and Shuuhei didn't expect her to say it that clearly.  He's mad, and he says that there's no reason for them to go out anymore, when Sarah shouts that he's an idiot.  She says she's never been that unhappy, and though she doesn't want to say it, calls Shuuhei a cheater.  Shuuhei asks if she's done, and then hugs her.  He says don't think that you're the only one who worries, and says she never says anything about why she's mad or unhappy, and that's what he wanted her to do.  He says don't be so patient and quiet, and to tell him everything, happy things, hurtful things, whatever.  So they make up and everything's happy.

Part 43 (March 1999): It's been a month since the big commotion, and summer vacation is close. Shuuhei has gotten glasses, and is soon going for his motorcycle licensing test. Sarah thinks that since then, things have been pretty peaceful. She's in the living room alone with Shuuhei, and asks him how Yuki is doing. Shuuhei gets all scowly and asks if she's thinking about him, and Sarah thinks that this subject is still taboo. She says she was just wondering, and maybe thought that if he and Shuuhei are still in a fight it would be nice if they made up. Shuuhei says how could they ever be friends after Yuki made a big thing about declaring his love for Sarah, and tells her not to worry because Yuki is doing fine. Shuuhei remembers Yuki telling him they should make up because it will be difficult since they're classmates and teammates. He said there's no reason for them to disagree now because he has totally given up on Sarah. Shuuhei says Yuki acts like nothing happened, but he can't understand that. Sarah asks Shuuhei about when he asked her to break up, and asks what he would have done if she said yes. He says he was being a bit mean to her because she wouldn't believe in him. He says he knew she wouldn't say yes. Sarah hugs him and says maybe he'll get jealous about little things again, but next time he should listen to her. She thinks that she was always worried about whether Shuuhei really cared for her, but now she's okay, she believes that it's not just her who feels strongly. Suddenly Shuuhei's mom comes in, and they break apart very fast. His mom says if he has time he should walk the dog, Steve. On the walk, Shuuhei suggests to Sarah that they tell his parents about their relationship(I didn't know it was secret,oh well). He says it's not like they're doing anything wrong, though his mom might be a bit mad. Sarah says no, because then her dad will find out, and he's scary. She says usually he's really sweet, but when anything concerns boys, he gets really bad-tempered, even if she just mentions a boy's name. Shuuhei remembers when her parents left for America, and her mom told him that if he made Sarah cry again, she'd tell Sarah's father. So Sarah asks that they keep it secret a little longer. At school the next day, Sarah's friends are talking about Koharu and herboyfriend, Wataru. They wonder if they've kissed yet, because lately their relationship has been really good. One of them says she thinks so, because she saw Wataru visiting Koharu's house after school. Sarah thinks that that's true, but she doesn't know when they'd get a chance to in the house. Then the girls ask Sarah how far she's gone with Shuuhei, since he's an 'adult'(I don't remember being very adult in high school ;). Sarah lies and says something(?), which impresses the girls. Then she wonders what she's doing saying that when they haven't even kissed. Later, Wataru tells Sarah that he and Koharu haven't kissed yet. He says guys have more naive and delicate feelings than girls, and if they're refused once, they're afraid to try again. He remembers Christmas when he tried and Koharu slapped him. Sarah thinks of when she pushed Shuuhei away, and thinks that maybe she hurt his feelings more than she'd thought, and that's why he hasn't done anything since. Wataru and Sarah arrive at Shuuhei's practice game, and Sarah interrupts Yuki turning down a girl. She is surprised to overhear him tell the girl that he's waiting for his soulmate, and Yuki then sees Sarah. Sarah's kind of embarrassed. Yuki says that Rima asked him to apologize to Sarah for her about the kiss thing. He remembers Rima saying she didn't mean for him to do that when she asked him for help, and that she didn't know that that was the reason for Shuuhei and Sarah's big fight. Sarah asks Yuki if he was just asked out by that girl, and says she was pretty. Yuki says Sarah's the only one he wants, and when Sarah reacts he says he's lying, he doesn't like her anymore. Then he's called to the game, and before he leaves, asks Sarah to show him what 'true love' really is(with Shuuhei). He says if they don't break up, then he can believe in it, and Sarah says he surely has a fated partner as well. Sarah thinks during the game that while she didn't notice Yuki, she said some horrible things to him and probably hurt him a lot, and thinks that for his sake as well, she'll cherish the love that she and Shuuhei have. Eventually, summer break comes, and Sarah's at her house with her cousin Chihiro. She thinks aloud that people are difficult, and Chihiro asks if she had another fight with Shuuhei. She says no, and Chihiro says won't Shuuhei be mad that she spends so much time at her own house. Sarah says not to worry, they're all lovey-dovey now, and that if she doesn't come to clean up every so often, the house will turn into a garbage dump. Then she asks Chihiro if he ever wants to kiss her when he sees her, which makes him spit out his drink. She says there have been so many chances, and she gets the feeling she's being avioded, and wonders if she doesn't have any adult appeal(she's thinking about Shuuhei). Chihiro comes close to her and says maybe he wants to kiss her, and Sarah slaps him and calls him a perverted old man. She finds an apartment rental directory and asks Chihiro about it, but he says it's nothing. Then he tells Sarah that Shuuhei considers her very important, and tells her to try hard to pretend to be sexy for him. When Shuuhei gets home, Sarah hugs him, but Shuuhei keeps putting her away from him. She tells him that her mom said she could wear a yukata, and Shuuhei could as well, but Shuuhei says he doesn't look good in them, which Sarah denies. Shuuhei puts on his glasses and starts reading, and Sarah sits and watches him. She wonders aloud(without realizing) if the glasses would get in the way while he kissed, and when Shuuhei looks up, asks if she said it out loud. He says yes, and Sarah is really embarrassed. Shuuhei says why don't they try and see, but then says he was just joking. He gets up to get a drink, and Sarah hugs him from behind. She says she won't escape, and says if it's Shuuhei she won't be scared. She says ever since she was little she only saw Shuuhei, and thought that she wanted him to be hers alone, and wonders if she's selfish. She tells him that she loves him, and Shuuhei turns around and kisses her! (Finally!) He says he always thinks that as well. Suddenly in the living room door Sarah's father appears, and he sees her and Shuuhei embracing!

Part 44(April 1999): Sarah’s parents have returned and they now know that she andShuuhei are going out. Shuuhei’s parents say they knew a long time ago. Sarah’s father won’t acknowledge Sarah and Shuuhei’s relationship, and shuts up Sarah in her room and locks her in. He then visits the Seto’s, and tells them he’ll pick up Sarah’s bags tomorrow. Shuuhei tries to talk to him, but he dismisses him.  After he leaves, Shuuhei’s parents say if he’s not willing to be really serious with Sarah(with a view to marrying her) then he should stop now.
At her house, Sarah is still really mad at being locked in. That night, she hears stones hitting her window-it’s Shuuhei. She climbs over and drops into his arms, and they go talk. Sarah is miserable, and says she’ll disown her parentsand live with Shuuhei again, but Shuuhei says no way. He says that the way they’ve been living until now has been out of the ordinary, and from now on they’ll just meet as anormal couple. Sarah says it will be as horrible as a year before before when shedidn’t live with him, and when she woke up, he wasn’t there, and when she ate meals or watched TV he wasn’t there...Shuuhei says it won’t be the same at all, because their spirits are connected now. He says they’ll just have to try and be acknowledged by her father.  A few days later, there are fireworks for some holiday. Sarah and Shuuhei go to see them. Sarah said her father was at a meeting, so she snuck out, and she asks Shuuhei what he would do if her father suddenly appeared. Shuuhei tells her not to say such ominous things, and Sarah says she’d have to take off her shoes and run for it, but Shuuhei says he wouldn’t escape, he would fight. Sarah is happy, remembering hiswords about their spirits being connected. When they get home, Sarah’s father is waiting for them looking stormy. He says he knew this would happen so he came home early. Shuuhei apologizes for bringing Sarah home late and says he’ll be careful from now on. He turns to go when Sarah’s father stops him.  He asks Shuuhei if he means to marry Sarah! He asks if he’s really serious, or if he’sjust trying tohave fun. Sarah is mad that he’s putting Shuuhei on the spot, whenShuuhei respondsthat truthfully, until now he’s never thought about marriage. Sarahthinks that it’snormal, but still a bit of a shock, when Shuuhei continues, sayinghe does want tosee next year’s fireworks with Sarah as well. Then he excuses himself, leaving Sarahin a rosy haze, and her father stunned.Inside later, Sarah’s mother says her daughter has really got a goodone, and asksSarah’s father why he’s still so depressed. He says in just a year,Sarah has becomean adult. He says she told him that now she can say that Shuuhei isthe person she loves, and those feelings are her pride and joy...

Part 45 (May 1999): Sarah and her parents are in Shuuhei's house.  Sarah thanks his family for taking care of her for a year, and says that she felt like part of the family and was very happy.  Shuuhei's father says it will be sad not having her around, and Shuuhei's mother says he won't be able to see her much, but the rest of the family will, because Koharu will see her at school, and she'll come visit Shuuhei's mom.  On the way home, Sarah's dad says she went more easily than he thought she would.  Sarah says soon she'll leave as a bride, so she should take the time to be with her dad while she can, which depresses her dad a lot.
Back at the Setos, Koharu is looking at her room.  Shuuhei comes in and Koharu asks if it was this big before.  Shuuhei says it feels like there's something missing now.  Koharu asks if there was something he wanted, and Shuuhei asks her if she was getting a present, what would she most like?  Koharu knows that he's wondering what to get Sarah for her birthday, which is soon.  She says he should ask Sarah, but she can guess what she'd say: 'As long as I'm with Shuu-chan, I don't need anything else'.  Shuuhei says that's of no use to him, he needs a thing.  Koharu says the thing girls most want to receive from the guys they like is a ring.  Shuuhei says that seems kind of serious for a Grade 7 student, and Koharu says all girls that have boyfriends get them now.  As Shuuhei leaves, Koharu says it's okay if it's just a cheap one, and Shuuhei asks if she has one.  Koharu blushes, and Shuuhei is a bit disgruntled that an elementary school student is faster than him.  Back in her room, Koharu remembers when Wataru bought the ring for her, and is happy.
Later, Chihiro is moving out of Sarah's house, and Sarah's  mom scolds him for not following her rules while they were away.  Talking alone, Shuuhei tells Chihiro that he's actually a bit relieved that Sarah moved out, because though she was innocent and never suspected anything, he was afraid that he would lose control and go too far sometime.  Chihiro says that's also why he's moving out, but not with Sarah, but her mother!  Shuuhei says he has a thing for wives.
Later, Shuuhei and Sarah's dad are playing go and Sarah's dad loses.  Shuuhei says he'll play any game and win them all, because he has something riding on this.  Sarah gets fed up and tells them to cut it out, and her dad gets up and says 'No later than 5:00!'  Sarah asks what he's talking about, and Shuuhei tells her that he was playing for the right to take her out tomorrow for her 13th birthday.  On their date, they go where Sarah wants to, which is a park or something.  Shuuhei asks her why she chose here, and Sarah says this place has sad memories for her, and she wants to replace them with happy memories so she can look at a Christmas tree without her chest hurting (I assume this is something from a while ago before I started reading it).  Shuuhei asks her what she wants for her birthday, and sure enough, she says exactly what Koharu told Shuuhei, down to the last syllable.  Shuuhei asks if there's anything else, and Sarah says if she could get anything, she would want to be able to be Shuuhei's bride!  She says she'd be very good at it, she's great at housework and cooking, and everyday she would give Shuuhei love, courage, and power.  Shuuhei chuckles and says when he asked her before she said the same thing.  Sarah gets mad and asks why he's laughing, and Shuuhei suddenly hugs her.  He says he gets too much as it is, and it's time for him to give Sarah something.  Sarah asks if he'll make her his bride, and Shuuhei smiles and says for right now, she's the top candidate.  Sarah swats him and says he's acting conceited, and Shuuhei gives her a jar of candy.  Sarah asks if that's all, and Shuuhei reminds her drily of what she said before.  He tells her not to give any to anyone else, and to eat them all herself, and Sarah agrees, while thinking that she won't eat them at all, but keep them.  Shuuhei walks a bit ahead, and Sarah thinks that in the three years to her 16th birthday, she'll make Shuuhei want to marry as well, and tells him silently to get ready.  She points at him like a gun, and as he turns around imagines him in a white tuxedo...
In a church,  someone exclaims on how cute the bride is, and says she's still a teenager.  Sarah's mother calls her, and the bride turns around(it's Sarah).  Koharu comes up and congratulates her, and Sarah's mom says her dad is crying and might not even be able to attend the ceremony.  She tells Sarah to be happy, and Sarah, walking arm in arm with a man in a white tuxedo, thinks that everything will be fine, because it's her chosen person. She turns to look...and it's Subaru!  Sarah's eyes bug out, and she looks around frantically, asking what's happening.  Subaru says they should go, everyone's waiting, but is suddenly pushed out of the way by Rai!  He says he's the happiest person in the world because he's marrying Sarah, and invites her to accompany him to the bright future, but is shoved aside by Yuki!  He says he's her fated love, and takes her hand to continue.  Sarah yells out that they're all wrong, and the last scene is Yuki dragging Sarah off with Subaru and Rai in hot pursuit...
Sarah is jolted out of her daydream by Shuuhei calling her, and he asks if she fell asleep standing up.  Sarah looks around and realizes it was only a dream, and Shuuhei walks off, muttering that he can't believe she fell asleep in the middle of a date.  Sarah starts to follow him but trips, and all the candies in the jar fall out onto the ground.  While she picks them up, she notices one that is wrapped differently.  She opens it, and a note and a ring fall out.  The note says 'Happy Birthday.  Let's be together always' and the ring has a jewel on it.  Sarah runs after Shuuhei and hugs him, telling him it fits perfectly.  She thinks back to some of the memories of Shuuhei and her, and thinks that she will always treasure the miracle of having met her one and only, and thinks that she wants to always walk towards the happy future with him.  The last page is a rose-framed picture of her and Shuuhei's wedding, with "? years after" above it.  Underneath, it says, "Love, Courage, and Power, all to you..."
