Kotobuki Ran is a high school girl with loads of confidence, good looks, and good friends.  The only thing she doesn't have that she Really Really wants is money.  She has expensive taste in clothes, and is always trying to find a way to get the latest trend.  She is also very proud though, and won't stoop to stealing.  Her whole family is in the police force, and though she says she's not interested, she sometimes shows crime fighting tendencies :).  Ran prefers to be a (this might be wrong) Ko Gal, which is (possibly) a combination of Ko(as in high school), and Girl.  It's a slang term used for girls who wear crazy fashions, really high platforms, and are not afraid to stand out.  A lot of them use makeup to make their skin look tan, and wear white makeup around their eyes and mouth-but Ran and her friends are 'whites' which means they leave their skin the way it is(thank god).  Not only that, but this girl has attitude.  Talk about Girl Power!

Part 1 (February 1999): One day Ran's friend comes to school and announces that the most fashionable bag to have is one from Meishou High School, and she just got one from Asou Yuuya, who was ranked second in the Grand Prix(apparently a popular Ko-Gal's magazine made a list of the most 'eligible'(popular, rich, whatever)high-school guys)  She says she wanted the one from the first-ranked guy, Otohata Rei.  She shows a picture of him and Ran says he's the type of guy she hates.  Ran decides that she REALLY wants one of those bags and after school, when she sees some guys walking downtown in Meishou uniforms, runs up and grabs one of their bags.  It's Rei, and he won't let go of the bag, asking her who she is.  She tells him and asks for the bag, and Rei asks if she has any money, and Ran says no, she's poor.  Rei says well, she can pay for it with her body, and Ran says screw off, if he thinks all Ko-Gals sell their bodies he's totally wrong, and says she's still a virgin.  Ran says don't underestimate call girls, and runs off with Rei's bag.  Ran's friend, who's the second-ranked Yuuya, decides he likes Ran.
Later, Ran is in her room, and decides that her pride won't allow her to steal the bag, and her parents burst in asking where the thief is, because they thought they smelled one.  Ran's father asks something about her being ready to be a police officer yet, and Ran says she doesn't intend to be one at all, and takes off.  Downtown, she sees a quiet girl from her class, Hoshino, and remembers that day in class, when some girls were talking about her having a sugar daddy.  Ran asks if it's true, and says if it's not, she'll help her stop the rumours at school.  Ran says she couldn't be, since she's so smart and ladylike, but Hoshino says it's true, and she doesn't care if people at school know.
Hoshino's not at school the next day, and Ran decides to check up on her.  She visits her brother at work and asks if he has any record of Hoshino, but he doesn't.  Then her friend Miyu(who's going out with her brother) comes in and says she just saw her a little ways away, wearing really fashionable clothes.  Ran tries to take her brother's bike but it's broken.  Just in time, along come Rei and his friend, #2(as Ran calls him), on a scooter, so Ran jumps on and directs them to the place.  She finds Hoshino and demands to know why someone like her is selling her body.  Hoshino says her father is really strict, her curfew is 6:30, she's not allowed to have a part-time job, and if she's not the top of the class, her father gets really mad.  She wants to be able to gopping and stuff.  Ran asks her if she's sold her body yet, and Hoshino says no, but she thinks probably today it will happen.  Ran says don't you ahve any pride, and Hoshino says she doesn't care anymore, her heart won't be affected, and her body is just a thing.  Ran says, oh yeah, and slaps her.  She says that things don't feel pain, and says if Hoshino cut herself blood would flow, and that if she doesn't feel pain, it's the same as if  her heart is dead as well.  Ran shouts that if Hoshino can't cut apart her own body and sell it, she shouldn't say such presumptuous things.  Ran's brother cuts in, saying she's a police officer's daughter all right, and Miyu goes over to Hoshino and tells her that having fun with Miyu and her friends is a lot better than a sugar daddy, and says she can tell them her troubles as well.  Ran goes over to Rei and #2, who are leaving, and gives Rei's bag back.  Rei says she can have it, since she showed them something interesting, and Ran leaves.  Yuuya(#2) comments on how cute Ran is, and Rei says she's dangerous.

Part 2 (March 1999):  Rei and Yuuya are in Shibuya one day, Yuuya hoping to see Ran, when someone's bag is stolen.  It looks like the thief will get until Ran dashes after and captures the culprit, who turns out to be a girl about Ran's age.  Ran thinks she recognizes her, but the girl punches her and runs off.  Yuuya is happy to see Ran, and Rei asks her what she's doing.  Ran says it's her part-time job.  Every time she does a good deed(like returning a stolen purse), she gets one point.  When she gets 10 points, her dad will give her 500Y(about 5 bucks).  Ran happily plans what she'll buy with the money.
At school the next day, Ran copies Hoshino's notes, and their classmates drool over Rei.  They ask Ran to invite him to the Goukon, since she was able to get his bag, and Ran tells them to invite him themselves.  They're starting to argue about it when Ran sees a girl pass by in the hallway that she recognizes as the thief from the day before.  She runs after her, but the girl denies it.  Her boyfriend says there's no way his girlfriend is a thief, and Ran says who cares about that.  What she wants payback for is the punch in the nose, butthe girl still denies everything.  She looks pretty scared, and Ran says she'll let it go this time.  As the couple walks away, the guy tells the girl sould have told him she was caught.  He tells her to find a better way of getting money, or he'll dump her.  He tells her that they'll do something tonight(not sure what) and she says okay.
That night, Ran is at a restaurant, with Rei, Yuuya, and the girls from her class who like Rei.  She says she only needs one more point to get 500Y, and Yuuya says having a father who's a detective must be cool.  Ran says he's just a normal old man, and Rei asks why Ran is sitting with them and eating his food.  Yuuya says it's okay, eat all you want, and Ran agrees.  Rei is not happy about the situation, since Yuuya said he was paying.
Ran is interrupted in her meal by two police officers saying they're bringing her to the station on suspicion of blackmail.  Hoshino asks if she has a previous record.
In the station, Ran says why would she do something like that(I think the girl from before called someone pretending to be Ran and demanded money-something like that).  The police officers say she lured the victim out using a cell phone and then attacked him, taking 50000Y(500$).  Ran says someone else must have used her name, and her father bursts in.  Ran thinks he's there to save her, but he says he's ashamed to have a criminal daughter.  Then Yuuya appears, saying he'll attest to Ran's innocence.  Ran's dad asks who he is, and he tells him he's Ran's boyfriend.  Everything goes a little crazy, with Yuuya asking Ran's dad to acknowledge their relationship and Ran denying it, and Ran's dad telling Yuuya to stop calling him Father, and the two police officers not knowing what to do.  Finally Ran blows her top, saying she'll find the real criminal herself, and leaving.  On the way out she meets Rei, and is glad that he came to check that she was alright, but he says how does he know that she didn't do it, and says wherever she is, trouble follows.  Ran is upset and tells him not to think that she's guilty, and he says (I think) he knows she didn't do it, he can see that.  Ran says her principle is not to use dirty money, and says let's go find the crook.  Rei goes even though he says he doesn't care about catching the thief.
Later, Rei, Yuuya, Hoshino, Miyu, and Ran are all together, and Hoshino says maybe the real criminal's message is still in the phone.  Yuuya finds it(somehow) and they all listen to it.  It's obviously not Ran's voice, and Ran thinks she recognizes it.  They decide to respond to the message to lure out the criminal.  Yuuya calls and pretends he'll give the person the money, and disguises himself as a salaryman.  The girls hide behind a tree, and when the girl comes, they recognize Mochida Yukie(the purse-stealer from before).  Suddenly her boyfriend appears, and grabbing Yuuya, says if he doesn't want a beating he'd better give them the money.  Ran jumps out and says stop right there, and asks Yukie if her former crime was for her boyfriend's sake as well.  Yukie says yes, because she loves him, and her boyfriend says she'll do anything for him.  Ran laughs in his face and then suplexes him(is that th e right word?  She picks him up, arches back and smashes him in to the ground), and says guys like him, who make the girls who like them commit crimes, are just scum.  It's wasted on the guy though, since he's off in dreamland already, and Ran calls out her brother to finish the job.  She then turns to Yukie, who says she couldn't help what she did, she was afraid of losing Takeru(her boyfriend), even once they were going out, and she thought if she did as he said they would stay together.  But really Yukie wanted someone to stop her, she say, and apologizes.  Ran says she shouldn't have thought she could have a loving relationship by stealing people's money, and says she should support herself and become a good woman, like herself.  Miyu and Hoshino tease Ran about becoming all fired up again, and Rei appears to comgratulate Yuuya on his hard work.
So Ran gets her last point, and her 500Y, and is happy, the world looks bright...until she drops it in the sewer...

Part 3(April 1999): Ran, Miyu, and Aya are out shopping and Miyu considers getting a red streak in her hair like Ran, which is the sign of having a boyfriend. Ran teases Aya that if she got one it would have to be blue since she doesn’t have a boyfriend, and Aya says Ran doesn’t have one either. Ran says if casual ones count, she’s got tons. Aya says up until now, all she thought about was school, and she’s never even liked someone, so to the average guy, she must seem like an untouched flower on a high mountain. Then Miyu shows them a letter she found in her desk that day. It says the same things over and over, like Go out with me, Go out with me, I like you, I like you. It’s only signed YK. Apparently the same guy has written her 3 letters with no name. It’s pretty creepy. Ran wonders if it’s just teasing. Ran’s rival Ko-Gals interrupt them, telling Ran to get out of the store, saying she’s probably there because Rei goes there a lot, and they found it first so it’s their territory. Ran tells them all of Shibuya is her territory, and they start arguing. Rei appears and breaks them up, saying they’re scaring the other customers away. The girls ask him if he likes them or Ran better, and Ran says he’s not her type. The girls say it’s obvious that she’s pursuing Rei. Rei then silences the girls by saying he hates the whole Ko-Gal style(something like that). Later, Ran and her friends are at the police station. Ran’s brother, Yamato, says it’s late(9:00) and they should go home, but Miyu says probably no one’s at her house anyways, and it’s more fun to be with him and everyone else. Yamato says no way, and tells Ran to escort Miyu and Aya home. Miyu says she can go home on her own, and says Yamato must not like her, and that’s why he can be so cold to her. Yamato says that’s not what he meant, and Miyu says she’s pretty popular, and if Yamato leaves her alone too much she might cheat on him. Then she runs off before Yamato can say anything, leaving him to fret about what she just s aid(H e’s so cute) while Ran calls him an idiot. Meanwhile, Miyu is walking home and wonders if she was stupid to say that, and thinks maybe she’ll apol ogize. She thinks for a second someone’s following her, but then thinks it’s just her imagination. She is being w atched though... The nex t day at school, Miyu is depressed, and Ran tells her to cheer up, being like this isn’t like her. Ran says she should dump her boringly serious brother and find a better guy, and Miyu says he’s the only one for her, and if he dislikes her she’ll die. She cries that now she’s really far from making love or even kissing, and Ran agrees and laughs, until Miyu glares at her morosely. Miyu says it’s thanks to Yamato that she’s okay now, and he understands her the most. She says recently he’s been busy, they haven’t been able to be alone together, and he always acts like a policeman around her, she has worried that he doesn’t believe in her. Ran says she’s worrying too much, and tells her how agitated he was after she left, which cheers her up a bit. Then Ran is called away to get lectured by the teacher for being late, and before she goes says that since he’s on the night shift, he should be at home now and they can call him after. A guy comes up to Miyu and introduces himself as Yoshida Kenji, the author of the letters. He asks Miyu for an answer, but when she starts to refuse, starts blabbing about how he’s liked her for a long time and has always watched her, but he couldn’t get close to her because of the girl with the bad appearance(Ran). He takes hold of Miyu’s arm, and says he won’t let her go until she agrees to go out with him. Ran is making up unbelievable excuses for being late to her teacher, and when she finally admits she just slept in and the teacher starts lecturing her, she looks out the window and sees Miyu getting ready to punch Yoshida since he won’t let her go. Ran jumps out the 2nd floor window to the surprise of everyone(Miyu wonders aloud why she doesn’t break any bones) and pulls Miyu away from Yoshida. She says Miyu already has a boyfriend, and if Yoshida does anything to Miyu, she’ll show him no mercy. Yoshida wanders off, mubling about Miyu having a boyfriend, and Ran says he seems creepy, and it’ll be better if Miyu wasn’t alone. Miyu agrees. That night, Ran tells Yamato about the guy, saying it looks like the guy has been stalking Miyu. Yamato is really anxious and says Ran shouldn’t have left her alone at home but brought her to the station. Ran gets mad at him and shouts at him that Miyu didn’t want to get him involved, and Yamato yells back that he’s a policeman and it’s his job to protect people from danger. Ran shouts that he doesn’t understand, and Yamato demands to know what she means. Ran says that women get worried if they’re not reassured often, and says if he doesn’t understand that at least he’s a total idiot, and stalks off. Yamato looks contemplative, and ignores an old woman asking for directions...
In a restaurant, Rei and Yuuya(#2) are doing an interview. Miyu and Aya are with them because Ran asked them to look after Miyu. After asking some dumb questions, Rei is asked what kind of person he’s not good at dealing with , and Rei points to Ran as she comes in. Ran thanks them for guarding Miyu and says she’s hungry. She suggests that Yuuya treat them to dinner, and he says okay but they’re doing an interview right now. She says okay, and calls Miyu and Aya, and Yuuya decides to go anyways. Aya doesn’t really want to, and Rei invites her to stay, saying he’ll take her home after. Aya is very surprised, and Ran says that sounds good, and leaves. For the next little while, Aya just sits quietly blushing while Rei answers questions.
Outside, Ran, Yuuya, and Miyu walk along, Ran trying to decide what to eat, when suddenly a guy with a hat rushes Yuuya from the back with a knife. Yuuya dodges, and Ran and Miyu recognize Yoshida. Yoshida assumes that Yuuya is Miyu’s boyfriend, and says he’s going to kill him. Ran tells Miyu to stand back, and Miyu says she’ll take care of it herself, she won’t put Ran in danger. Ran says Miyu can’t fight, maybe because of her past record, I’m not quite sure. Ran asks Yoshida if he really wants her to beat him up, and Yoshida stabs at her with the knife, saying she’s annoying as well. Ran knocks him down, and says just because he likes Miyu doesn’t mean she likes him, and one-sided love happens all the time, and it wouldn’t do him any good to kill Miyu’s boyfriend. Miyu tells Yoshida that she’s not the kind of girl he thinks, and confesses that she used to be (I think) a gang leader, and lied and stole, and even carried a weapon. She says that even knowing all that, someone loved her, and asks Yoshida if he is that compassionate. Yamato, who has just arrived, tells Miyu to stop, she doesn’t have to say anything more. He tells Yoshida that he’s Miyu’s boyfriend, and if he has a problem or wants a fight, he’ll do it. Yoshida says there’s no way he likes Miyu now that he knows that she’s a thief, and runs away, chased by Ran warning him off. Yamato hugs Miyu, saying he’s glad she’s okay, and says he loves her with her past and everything, and he’s always thinking of her and wanting to protect her. He apologizes for causing her to be troubled. Miyu also apologizes, saying she’s only happy because she has him, and says from now on, she’ll listen to him. Then she asks him to kiss her, but he says his heart isn’t ready yet(shouldn’t this be the other way around? ^_^) Ran, watching, says her brother has his good points and she’ll forgive him this time, and Yuuya says(I think) that he doesn’t understand women. At school, Ran asks Miyu if she’s going to streak her hair, and Miyu says no-Yamato said he didn’t want her to because Ran had it, and Ran calls him a bad name.

Part 4(May 1999): Fated Love...Does He Exist or Not?
Ran is in downtown Shibuya, discussing fashions in cell phones, when Ran is stopped by a guy who puts his arm around her.  He reminds her that he treated her to dinner before, and suggests that they continue on to a love hotel.  Ran gives him a backfist and tells him to get his hands off, because she's not the cheap kind of girl who'll sell her body for a free dinner.  She beats him up a bit, and the three girls continue to shop.  The next day at school, Miyu is looking at a magazine which tells you what your 'love score' is for that week.  Aya asks her what hers is(50%)and Miyu asks her if she likes someone.  Aya doesn't really answer before Ran breaks in and asks for hers.  It’s 5%, and the magazine says that sheshould be careful about guys thaweek, because her judgement will be really bad.  The class girls laugh and say it’s true, Ran has no powers of observation, and Ran chases them.  She’s interrupted from giving them headlocks by a girl, Sugihara, who says Ran beat up her boyfriend yesterday.  They start arguing but are stopped by the teachers before they get physical.
After school, Ran is eating with Rei and Yuuya, and Yuuya says that guys are always thinking about sex.  He starts to say that he would never do anything with anyone else but the girl he liked, but Ran cuts in, saying that guys always think that if they support her, she’ll let them sleep with her.  She says she’s a love hunter, but Yuuya is in his own world.  Rei says she looks easy, and that’s why she attracts those guys.  He says guys choose girls based on the first impression, and if she wants to get different guys, she should act differently.  Ran puts on a helpless girl act for a second, making Yuuya and Rei laugh, and says there’s no way she could be like that.  Yuuya starts to make a confession, but Ran leaves to go have pie with Miyu and Aya.  Rei comments that her worries never last very long, and Yuuya complains that she doesn’t listen to him.
Ran meets up with Miyu and Aya, but is dismayed to realize that she’s lost her phone.  A voice behind her asks if she means this, and she turns around to see a good-looking guy holding her phone.  He says he knew it was her because of the photo sticker of Ran on it.  Ran is overjoyed, and says he’s a lifesaver.
Man, I cannot believe the story from here got erased.  I'll look for it, and if I can't find it, I'll write it again, as with Kagen.

   Part 5 (June 1999): That's the Way to Be a Ko-Gal!
Ran, Aya, and Miyu are walking downtown as usual, Ran complaining about tests, when Miyu notices that they're being followed.  It's Ran's little sister, Sayo, and her boyfriend Masato. I think they're practicing detective work.  Ran asks angrily if Sayo thinks they're criminals or something, and Sayo says no, but trouble always happens around Ran, so she wants to start hanging out with her.  Sayo always says 'Chu' at the end of her sentences, which Ran finds annoying.  Masato tells the girls that he and Sayo have a dream.  Both of them start singing a song about how they'll become great policemen and become the 'young hope' of Wangansho(whatever that is).  They finish off in a pose suspiciously reminiscent of Ran's parents.  Sayo spots a suspicious couple-an old man and a Ko-Gal, and the kids start to run after them, but Sayo trips and falls on her face.  She looks up with her nose bleeding and plays out a death scene with Masato as Ran and the girls walk off.  Ran calls her a moron, but Miyu thinks she's interesting.  They go into 'Donny's' and find Rei and Yuuya studying.  They sit down, Ran stealing some of Rei's drink.  Yuuya takes a suck over the indirect kiss and Rei notes that Ran always steals from him, which Ran didn't seem to know.  Aya asks if their high school practices 'Maakushiito', and says it must be nice.  Rei says if you're lucky you can get good marks.  Yuuya says Aya goes to cram school so she has some leeway, and Aya says recently she hasn't gone at all.  She's been skipping to hang out with Ran.  Ran says studying is pointless for your future anyways, and Rei says not for people who want to go to university.  Ran is amazed that a Gr. 10 student would already be thinking of university.  Rei says it's bad to play around all the time like Ran, and Ran says Aya will be okay because she reads reference books.  Aya hesitantly agrees (seems like she really doesn't).
The next day, Ran is happy because a test if over, and her classmate says she must expect a good mark if she's that happy.  Ran says she thinks she'll get a 10.  The teacher says he hopes that everyone trying to get into exclusive classes(or schools, I'm not quite sure) does well, and tells Ran not to dance on her desk.  Two girls approach Aya and ask what she put down for a certain question.  Aya says she doesn"t know if she got it right, and the girls are surprised.  They say that it should have been wasy for her, and say that since she started being friends with Ran, she's changed.  They say it looks like playing is more important than studying to her now, and Hoshino tells them to stop talking like that.  The girls are mad, saying they're doing it for her sake.
After school, Ran etc. are walking in Ikebukuro, and Aya apologizes for making them come with her to the bookstore.  Ran says it's OK, they'll go the Loft after(I think this is a restaurant).  Ran bumps into another girl, and the girl is really rude to her.  Her boyfriend comes and asks what happened, and the girl says Ran needs a lesson.  Her friend insults Ran, saying if she's waiting for a guy to hit on her, she should give up because no one would be interested in her.  Then the girl's boyfriend sees Ran, Miyu, and Aya, and exclaims that they're all really cute, and starts talking to them, stopping the girls.  Ran gets pissed and punches him, announcing who she is(along with her ruling Shibuya) and saying she doesn't allow small fry like him to hit on her.  The girl, Mami, says she rules Ikebukuro and asks if Ran is looking for a fight.  Ran says if she just stays quiet she won't get hurt, and the girl gets angry.  Her friend tells her to do it, and Miyu asks if she'll be fighting as well.  Ran says she'll be fine by herself, and her and Mami go to it.  Before they've done any damage, they're stopped by a voice, and Sayo leaps out from behind the hedge, shouting that it's illegal to fight in Ikebukuro and saying they're under arrest.  However, she catches her foot on a rail and falls flat again.  Masato jumps out after her, upset that their homemade arrest warrant is torn.  While Mami and her friends are wondering who these weird kids are, Ran walks off, saying the mood if ruined and pretending not to know Sayo.
At family breakfast the next day, Ran's dad scolds Sayo, saying she could get seriously hurt playing detective, and telling Ran she should keep a closer eye on her.  Ran says it's none of her business, and Sayo says they were just playing.  She demands to know if there's anything wrong with her wanting to be a great policeman like her parents and brother.  Her dad, mollified, says that's good but she has to do it in a respectable way.  Sayo asks if that means she can't have sex, which silences the whole family.  Ran asks if she's done it yet, and Sayo says no, but Masato has.  Their dad shouts at them to repeat after him(I guess he does this a lot) and then says something about how Grade 8 students should not talk about sex.  Then he swings Sayo around by her legs as punishment, and Ran says she'll be late.
Ran barely makes it to class on time, where Miyu tells her that Aya was called to the principal's office, and her parents were there too.  Ran asks why, and Miyu says she doesn't know but the principal seemed really serious.  Aya enters the classroom looking depressed, and everyone asks what's wrong.  Aya tells them to leave her alone and not talk to her, and runs off.  Ran demands to know why and follows her, along with Miyu.  Aya stops when she gets to the roof, and tells them that her test results were bad.  Her teacher contacted her parents about it, and her skipping cram school was also found out.  Aya says her parents said she must have fallen in with bad friends, and lectured her the whole night.  Ran says it's not their fault she got a bad mark on the test, and Aya says Ran doesn't understand.  She doesn't understand how it feels to be the only child, with all your parents' hopes resting on you, and having to be a star student, and not even being able to relax at home.  Aya asks if Ran knows how she felt when she saw her parents' faces after finding out how badly she did on the test, and Ran says of course not.  She says she's not totally owned by her parents, and says living just to fulfill your parents' expectations is a boring life.  Ran says she doesn't care if Aya blames her marks on them, but if Aya's going to stop being friends with them, Ran wants to tell her one thing-You should live for yourself, and not for someone else.  Ran turns around and leaves, followed by Miyu asking if they're really going to stop being friends.  Behind her, Aya looks pensive...
That night at the police stop, Ran gets violent with an innocent bystander, and Miyu tells Yamato(Ran's brother) that the fight with Aya must have affected Ran after all.  Yamato says Ran gets violent where normal people get depressed.  Miyu says it would suck to have parents like Aya's, though she wouldn't want to be neglected either, and Yamato says in the end everyone has to find the solution themselves.  Miyu says as long as she has Yamato, she'll be okay, and Yamato gets embarrassed, saying he's on duty.  Sayo and Masato pop up in front of them.  Yamato asks if she's still playing detective, and Sayo says she's making a report to Yamato.  Sayo starts proclaiming everything she and Masato saw happen, and finishes off by saying the girls who almost fought with Ran are hanging around the south gate.  Ran hears this and says she's going.  She drags Miyu along, though Miyu would rather stay with Yamato, and Masato and Sayo follow, saying that things are getting interesting.  Left behind, Yamato thinks that it's hard having two little sisters.
Elsewhere in Shibuya, Aya is listening to some street performer play the guitar and sing a love song.  Someone says he sucks, and Aya looks up and sees Rei.  He sits down and says it's strange to see her alone, and Aya says him too.  Rei is waiting for Yuuya.  Aya says she was wandering around after cram school and ended up in Shibuya.  Aya wonders aloud if she's being selfish.  She says for a long time she's just been acting like a star student. She's not really that smart, and doesn't even like studying that much.  But without studying, her life doesn't have much meaning, and she was afraid to disappoint her teacher and parents.  That's why she blamed her low marks on her friends. She asks why she's like this, why she's doing things that make her dislike herself.  Rei says there's no guarantee that having no fun now will give you a happy future, and says she should live however she wants.  Then he says that Aya when she's happy is more his type!  Aya stares at him, and Rei sticks his handkerchief in her face.  He says it looks like he's making her cry.  Yuuya shows up, and tells Rei that he shouldn't be making girls cry.  Rei denies this, and then invites Aya along with them. calling her by her first name only, which makes Aya happy.  They turn to go but are stopped by a guy recognizing Aya.  It's the guy and girls from Ikebukuro, and Aya doesn't know what to say.  The guy tries to pick up Aya, and Yuuya seems like he's going to fight him(Rei is standing in the background as usual) when a hand falls on his shoulder.  It's Ran, and she tells the guy to take his dirty hands off Aya.  The guy says just touching her shoulder is no big deal, and Ran knocks him down again, this time with a kick.  His friend tells Ran not to badmouth him(she called him small fry again) and Ran takes care of him as well, punching him.She says Aya is her important best friend, and the next time they touch her she won't go so easy on them.  The enemy girl Mami asks her friend if she has a weapon on her, but she doesn't, so the group gives up and leaves, but not before Mami warns Ran that next time it won't end like this.  Ran complains to the boys about their not doing anything to help, then turns to Aya and says Shibuya is dangerous for her so she should stay around Ran.  Aya replies that she's not a kid, and then stops, asking if they're still friends  Ran says she never said she was dropping Aya as a friend.  Aya says thanks to everyone her will is firm, and she throws away her book, resolving to live in the present.  Ran approves, saying that's how a Ko-Gal lives, and having fun is enough for now.  Sayo appears, saying she wants to become a Ko-Gal detective like Ran.  Ran bops her on the head, saying she's not a detective and she'll never be, and everyone goes off together.  Masato pauses to write the Ko-Gal code down in a notebook: Enjoying the present is most important.

Part 6 (July 1999):Shibuya Ko-Gals Are #1!?
Ran has a cute new bikini to wear, and Miyu invites her and Ayato the beach tomorrow along with her and Yamato.  Ran's waving her bikini around jubilantly on the subway when she accidentally hits a girl, who turns out to be the gang leader from Ikebukuro(last chapter).  She and Ran start arguing about which area has the best Ko-Gals, and it almost gets to a fight but the girl gets off right after smearing lipstick all over Ran's face.  Walking away, the girl and her friend talk about how Ran will be gone tomorrow from Shibuya, leaving it undefended.
Walking downtown, Ran and the girls find Rei and Yuuya doing a photo shoot for a magazine, watched by many adoring Ko-Gals of course. They're briefly detained by the rival Ko-Gals, who tease Ran about being so white(they're all really tanned).  Yuuya isrealy happyto see Ran, and wants to ditch the shoot to go with her, but Ran suggests instead that they come with them to the beach tomorrow.  Yuuya is starry-eyed at the thought of Ran in a bathing-suit, and coerces Rei into going even though Rei was supposed to work.
The next day, Yamato is driving everyone out to the beach and the girls are all in really good moods.  Yamato is crying to himself because he thought it was just going to be him and Miyu, and he was looking forward to being alone with her.
They get to the beach and the girls have all changed into their bathingsuits.  Yamato admires Miyu, Yuuya admires Ran, and Rei looks expressionless as usual.  Yuuya hopes that he can somehow get alone with Ran, and maybe they would hold hands, and then other things...(his nose starts gushing)...Rei looks over and tells him that his thoughts are written all over his face.
Ran announces that they're going to have a flag race, and the loser has to drink "aojiru"???  Apparently something gross, I'm not sure.  The first race is between Ran and Yuuya, and Ran wins easily.  Yuuya drinks the stuff with everyone cheering him on, and Rei turns away and says he'd rather go bodyboarding.  Aya sees him go and follows him, saying she has something.  She returns his handkerchief which she borrowed, and also gives him some handmade cookies.  Rei says he doesn't really like sweet stuff, but he'll take it.  Aya happily walks away, telling herself to remember that for the future, and Rei thinks how rare it is to get homemade cookies nowadays.
Later, Yuuya comments to Rei that he's a bit jealous of Miyu and Yamato, who are walking along the beach together looking very couple-like, and complains that after Ran played and played, she just put suntan oil on and went to sleep.  Rei wonders when she'll wake up, and Ran looks pretty brown(more likely red).  Yuuya tries to steal a kiss but Ran rolls over and hits him.
Back in Tokyo, the girls are all together, and Ran says that her body hurts all over, but she'll stand it for the sake of her tan.  Two guys see Ran and ask if she's alright, and Ran doesn't know what they're talking about.  Apparently the girls from Ikebukuro came and beat up the Ko-Gals of Shibuya.  Miyu notes that people are looking at them differently than before.  Then the rival Shibuya Ko-Gals appear and tell Ran that they got beaten up.  Miyu says it's unforgiveable, and Ran tells them that she'll take of things from here.  She runs off to where the Ikebukuro girls are.
At the Quatro(I think) the Ikebukuro girls laugh at how weak Shibuya Ko-Gals are, and the #2 girl says soon they'll crush Ran as well.  Ran suddenly appears and swings at Honda (#1), but she avoids and comes back at Ran with a stun gun!  Ran says she can't beat her with toys like that, and kicks it out of Honda's grasp.  Honda says she's really pissed now, and #2 shouts that they're going to beat Ran to a pulp, but a policeman shows up and they run away, yelling threats as they go.  The guys from before show up and say they should have known the rumour wasn't true, it's unthinkable that Ran could be beaten.  Ran triumphantly agrees and says as long as she's in Shibuya, those girls can't do anything.  The guys cheer for Ran as she doubles over in sunburnt pain, and Aya scolds her, saying it's because she got so rowdy.

Part 7 (August 1999): A Ko-Gal's Passport to Love
Yuuya has thought up a plan to get Ran alone with him: Casually ask all the girls to an amusement park with him and Rei, and then lose the others.  Rei asks him why he doesn't just ask Ran out on a date, and Yuuya says he doesn't have the courage.  They're spotted by Aya and Miyu, who asks them to help get Ran down off the dog statue in the park.  Ran is telling the statue how hungry she is, she's broke because she couldn't resist buying some jewellery, and so has no money for food.  She feels something on her head, and looks up to find that a pigeon has landed on her.  It then proceeds to do what pigeons do ^_^, and Ran chases after it.  When she catches it, she says she'll teach it, she's going to eat it!  Yuuya stops her desperately, saying he'll buy her some takoyaki.  Her attitude instantly changes to one of happiness, as the others reflect on her character(or the lack of it).  When everyone is sitting together, Ran and Yuuya eating, Miyu puts a little sticker in a book, saying she did a good deed by saving Ran.  Apparently, everytime you do something good you put a sticker on, and when you have 100 you can wish for something and it will come true.  Miyu has 60 stickers, and Aya asks what she's wishing for.  Miyu excitedly exclaims that she wants her first kiss with Yamato, while Ran and Yuuya are kind of scornful of such a small wish.  Aya thoughtfully says maybe she should start collecting stickers as well, and Yuuya asks if she has something to wish for.  Everyone(except Rei) can tell what it is when Aya blushingly tells him not to ask something like that,  after hiding behind a pole and looking at Rei with starry eyes.  Miyu says she's going to go to Centre Shibuya and pick up garbage, and Aya decides to go with her and get started on her good deeds. Left behind, Yuuya tries to execute his 'casually ask for a date' plan, but Ran doesn't even listen to him, instead pulling him along to buy juice, which he of course agrees to.
Collecting garbage, Aya remarks that she read somewhere that if you do a lot of good deeds, they will re  turn to you.  Miyu looks pensive, and says maybe then she'll have an even score.  Aya asks what she means, and Miyu explains that as a kid she did a lot of bad things, and might have even hurt people without caring.  It's hard for to think about it now.  Aya says she kind of understands, since until recently she wanted to be bad,  and Miyu laughingly says she sounds like an old man.
They see someone throw away an empty pop can, and scold the person, before realizing it's their rival Ko-Gal from Ikebukuro, Honda Mami and her friend Harue, who discarded the can.  Harue gets mad at Miyu when she tells them not to cause any more problems for Ran, but is stopped by Ran, who shows up and chucks a fan at her.  Ran says not to bug Miyu, and then proceeds to get into a fight with Honda.  Harue recognizes Miyu's name, smiles smugly and leaves with Honda.
The next morning at school, Miyu gets a message on her cell which she thinks is from Yamato, but it's not.  It's anonymous, and states: I'm going to tell everyone about your past.  Miyu doesn't tell anyone about it, until computing class, when all the students gets an e-mail message revealing Miyu's previous expereience as a gang leader, saying she's a slut(I think) and that even now, she always carries a knife.  Ran tells Miyu to forget about it, but in the halls, everyone stares at Miyu and whispers about her.  Miyu says she's okay, but when two guys make comments about her being easy, Ran stops them by kicking one of them in athe head.  She yells to everyone not to say things that you don't know are true, and if anyone else talks about Miyu they'll feel her kick.  Ran announces that they'll have a strategy meeting at her house tonight, with the three girls and their two classmates coming.  Miyu gets another prank message on her cell.
That night at Ran's, Miyu asks them not to tell Yamato.  She doesn't really mind about most of the rumours, since they're half-true, but is upset about the one saying she's easy.  Ran gets mad and tells her that they're the Supreme Ko-Gals, and shouldn't care what other people say.  She tells Miyu that showing a reaction is admitting defeat.  Miyu yells that Ran doesn't understand what a girl in love feels like, and they start squabbling.  Yamato pokes his head in, and Miyu goes off with him.  Alone, Yamato asks what's wrong, and says he knows when something is bothering Miyu.  Miyu takes his hand, and says that just by doing that she feels a lot better, and her worries disappear.  Yamato is happy and embarrassed, calling her weird.  The other girls spy on them and say they're jealous.
The next day, Aya, Miyu, and Rei are together.  Miyu gets another prank e-mail on her cell, and Rei cheers her up, saying he gets lots as well, and people sometimes say really extreme things because they don't have to do it face to face.  Miyu says she'll go and get some sadf, and says Aya should stay with Rei.  Walking away, she gives herself a good deed sticker for helping love along.  Aya comments that Rei is kind, he always says the right thing, and Rei says he only says what he thinks.  Aya doesn't know what else to say, and is feeling dumb when Rei says that Yuuya is going to ask them all to the amusement park.  Aya thinks it's a great idea, but Rei says having such a cowardly best friend is hard.
In Shibuya, Ran and Yuuya are scouting for former gang members from a high lamppost.  Ran spots Honda, and demands to know what she's doing in Shibuya.  Ran leaps down fron the lamppost(she must have rubber for legs^_^), and Honda says she;s looking for her friend Harue.  Ran asks if Harue is like a little lost kid, and Honda says no, Harue was in a Shibuya ganga in middle school and knows her way around.  Ran says she'll help Honda look for her, though Honda tries to refuse.  They run off, leaving Yuuya stranded on the lamppost.
Miyu is picking up garbage when she turns around and finds a knife held at her throat by Harue.  Harue says she was part of a rival gang, Eagles, in middle school, when Miyu led the "Resistance" gang.  Harue says thanks to being either beat up or humiliated by Miyu, she had to leave Shibuya, and is thinking of repaying Miyu now.  Miyu says if she's serious, she'll fight her, when Ran and Honda run up.  Honda shouts at Harue, and Ran realizes that Harue is the one that's behind the prank e-mails.  Harue is scornful, and says she was just having some fun and wasting time, and Miyu was stupid to be scared.
