Kagen no Tsuki's second(I think) tankoubon was one of the top ten in Japan the month it was released!  I guess it shows that it had a big fan base of people that don't read Ribon.

This is the complex story of two ghosts, one supposed ghost, two cats, a mysterious house, and the four children who are trying to help them...
10 years ago, a musician died, following his lover, who had diedof disease.  On a summer night just a short time ago, a high school girl runs away from home and meets a mysterious, fascinating man named Adam.  She becomes his lover, until one night, she is hit by a car...     The story then changes, seemingly for no reason.  It introduces two schoolgirls, Hotaru and Sae, who are also best friends.  They are starting a new school and are delighted to find that the boy of Hotaru's dreams, Masaki, is in their class.  He's cool and aloof, while his friend, Tetsu, is a class clown.  One day after school, Hotaru brings Sae to an abandoned old house, and Hotaru tries to introduce Sae to her new friend Eve, who lives there.  Sae pulls Hotaru away and runs out of the house in panic, because she doesn't see anyone-Eve is a ghost!  However, Hotaru breaks free and runs back inside.  Sae is getting her courage up to return, when she runs into Tetsu and Masaki.  They accompany her inside, and the story begins...

Part 1 (April 1998): A man sings by the side of the road...a young woman asks the  musician, a blond guitarist with sunglasses, if he wrote the song.  He takes off his sunglasses, and the woman thinks(this is a memory): Those blue eyes and that sad song entranced me to the point of madness...   The scene shifts to a house somewhere in the suburbs.  A middle-aged woman gets up and tries to wake her husband, saying that Mizuki is back.  The husband just tells her to leave him alone, and keeps sleeping.  In her room, Mizuki(the young woman) is rushing around packing, thinking all the time that she has to hurry.  After throwing some clothes in a bag, she runs downstairs to leave again.  Her mother tries to stop her, but is ignored.  Her little sister, Yui, is also brushed by.  As Mizuki is going out the door, her sister says "I'm sorry..."  Mizuki pauses, looks back, and tells her sister goodbye.  She thinks to herself, "I hope you somehow find happiness in this house...Don't become like me..."     Once outside, Mizuki hails a cab and tells him to go as fast as possible to Shibuya.  She hopes that she makes it in time, and remembers her conversation with the young guitarist:  His name is Adam, he's 20 years old, and he was born in England.  Mizuki tells him his Japanese is very good, and that song is amazing.  She says the only reason why people aren't stoppng to hear his song is because everyone's busy.  Adam says that she listened, and that's all that matters.  Mizuki says that she should go as well, or she'll be late for her part-time job, but Adam says Don't go.  Mizuki says she'll listen to his music later, and asks where he'll be playing tomorrow.  Adam says he'll sing for her wherever she wants, and Mizuki is embarrassed, thinking that foreign people say things differently. Things progress, and Mizuki stops going to school, her part-time job, or home, and instead goes to Adam's house.  Mizuki is surprised that he lives in such a big house, and Adam says he's just borrowing it for a while.  Mizuki asks him why he came to Japan, and Adam says to meet her.  Mizuki asks why he's so good at Japanese(in particular regards to flirtation) and he says he used to have a Japanese girlfriend, and she taught him.  Mizuki is taken off guard and asks if it's a thing of the past, and Adam says yes, she died of a sickness, so it's in the past.  Mizuki is quiet for a moment, and then asks him to sing the song he was singing when she first met him, because it's her favourite.  She asks what it's called, and Adam says "Last Quarter".   Back in the taxi, Mizuki asks the driver to raise the radio volume.  She's stunned to hear Adam's song!  She wonders why it's on the radio, and the driver comments that it's a good song.  He asks who it's by, and Mizuki says she doesn't really know.  Mizuki thinks to herself that she didn't know that Adam was a pro musician.  The radio announces that the song was Last Quarter from Evil Eye, and Mizuki wonders if the band broke up, or they're on holiday...Mizuki thinks that there's so much she doesn't know about Adam, and they've only known each other for a month, even though it doesn't feel like that at all.  She thinks that she could be doing something totally stupid, but she can't stop now, her feelings won't be stopped now.  She gets back to the house, and Adam is up, asking  She says she was shopping, and that right now, because of her part-time job, she has quite a bit of money saved up.  She gives Adam a lighter which she bought for him(he usually uses the stove).  She says a year ago her dad remarried, and so his new wife and her child moved in.  In truth, the child is really her dad's, that while her mom was still alive he was cheating on her with that woman.  She continues, saying that because of them, she can't relax at home.  The child also has a bad personality, and is uncute, and so on.  Adam is just looking at her in silence, and Mizuki asks him if he's hungry, because she bought hamburgers.  Mizuki stops talking and looks at Adam, and asks him not to tell her to go home.  Adam says he's glad she came back, he was looking for her, and thanks for the lighter.     Later, Adam is playing his guitar and Mizuki sneezes.  Adam asks if she's cold because the window's open, and she says it's okay, she'll go to another room.  Adam tells her not to say lonely things like that, and closes the window.  Mizuki's pager goes off, and Adam doesn't know what it is.  At first, he thinks it's a small alarm clock, so Mizuki explains it to him.  They both are looking at the message screen, when the new one comes up, "I'm sorry, I'd like to meet you-Tomoki".  Adam can read the katakana, and Mizuki wishes he couldn't.  He asks who Tomoki is, and she says her ex-boyfriend.  She says they broke up a while ago, he cheated a lot but she didn't really care until he cheated with her best friend.  Adam asks her why she's laughing, why she laughs while she's saying all these sad things, and Mizuki says what else can she do?  Adam says crying would be better, and Mizuki says that would be too pathetic.  Adam says he thinks that laughing falsely is more pathetic, and Mizuki slowly breaks down and starts crying.     She remembers that she cried all night long, and the only other time she cried that much was when she was 5 years old and her mother died.  Her mother was sick, and in the hospital, and took sleeping pills when she discovered her husband's betrayal(I think) and Mizuki began to hate her father.  She grudged her mother for deserting her as well.  But when the boy she liked started acting just like her father, cheating on her, she didn't acknowledge the irony.  She didn't want to die like her mother, so she thought she would become a strong woman. She didn't even understand what strength was, and thinks that she still doesn't.  While she was thinking and crying, Adam just sat beside her, playing the song she said she liked best.
When she woke up, Adam had gone to bed.  She runs into the bedroom, yelling that it's noon already, but Adam doesn't move.  She moves closer, wondering if she should check his breathing, w hen he grabs her and pullsher down for a kiss.  Mizuki pulls back, blushing, thinking that was unexpected, but maybe it's a normal greeting for foreigners, and Adam says Good Morning.  Mizuki s ays why don't they go somewhere, it's such a nice day and it would be a shame if he came to Japan a nd missed it, and Adam says he's not very good in the middle of the day, and staying in with her w ould be just fine.  Mizuki asks why his hand is so cold, he shouldn't be wearing just a T-shirt, when she notices puncture marks on his arm.  Adam says he'll go put something on, and tell Mizuki that he stopped doing drugs a while ago, that it was a promise with his dead girlfriend.  Mizuki doesn't believe him and says they look fresh, and Adam says something like I haven't done it since you died, which stops Mizuki.  She thinks that she never noticed before how much she resembled his past girlfriend, and thinks that that is why he wants to be with her, because he sees his dead lover in her.  Mizuki is leaving the house with a bag, and Adam asks her not to go back.  Mizuki says she's only going to her part-time job, she's missed two days and if she misses more she'll get fired, and Adam hugs her.  He says don't go anywhere, don't desert me, please.  Mizuki remembers when she was watching over her mother's sickbed and said the same thing, and starts to cry.  Adam says I love you and starts kissing her.  Then he starts strangling her, crying at the same time!  He lets her go, and looks like he didn't really know what he was doing, and asks her to forgive him.  He says he loves her again, this time in Japanese, and Mizuki hugs him, telling him to stop taking drugs because she won't go anywhere she'll always be with him...     A few days later, on a rainy morning, Adam, along with his guitar and other things, disappeared.  Mizuki spent all of her time looking for him, skipping school and her job.  She didn't even want to go back to her house.  She thinks of Adam saying before that he was only there for two weeks, and thinks that if she can't meet him again it would be too sad to bear.  She thinks that unless someone comes and kicks her out of the house, she'll just stay there forever, waiting for Adam.  She's lying in bed, thinking of how lonely the house is alone, when her telephone rings.  She didn't tell Adam the number, and at this time of the night it can only be Tomoki. She thinks maybe it would be better to go back to her old lifestyle rather than be alone, an answers it, but it's Adam!  He apologizes for leaving her alone, and says he has to go, but thank you for being so kind.  Mizuki thinks it's she that should thank him, and starts to cry.  He says don't cry, now I want to take you with me, and Mizuki says then take me, and Adam says he'll wait where they first met until sunrise.  Mizuki thinks that even so, how can she go without a passport and everything, but even so she goes.  She thinks she doesn't know where they're going, if they're just two weak people together, she might be going to heaven or hell for all she knew, but she can't stop.    In a bar, an older man looks back at the last patron, a young man sleeping at the bar.  He calls him Tomoki, and tells him to sleep at home instead of the bar, but the young man doesn't get up until his friend threatens to leave without him.  Tomoki is walking with the guy, Shigeru, and says he thinks he'll go to Mizuki's house, to apologize once more. Shigeru says it's no use, this time, even Mizuki couldn't forgive him.  Tomoki asks, weeping, what he should do, and Shigeru says if he liked Mizuki that much, why didn't he treat her better?  Tomoki suddenly sees Mizuki on the street corner, and hides behind a tree.  Shigeru tells him not to be so pathetic, and Tomoki wonders why she's there, why she has a bag and who she's meeting with, and why she's wearing her school uniform.  Shigeru says it looks like she's going on a trip with a man, and Tomoki protests.  Shigeru tells him to say it to Mizuki not him, and Tomoki asks if he has a right to.  Shigeru says prepare yourself for the worst and just do it, and Tomoki walks out.  Mizuki is thinking that Adam is suggesting something impossible, and that if he is a pro musician there would be lots of complications.  She feels like she just woke up from a dream, and the truth isn't fun.  She's facing sideways from Tomoki and doesn't see him, but across the intersection sees Adam.  She thinks that in the 17 years she's lived in this city, nothing good has happened, and lots of bad things have, but she'll gladly desert them all as long as Adam is there.  She thinks that she will give the rest of her life to Adam, and he can do what he likes with it.  She start to cross the street even though there's no walk sign, and Tomoki runs after her, calling her name. She turns around, and in front of Adam and Tomoki's eyes, a car speeds up to the intersection and...

Part 2 (May 1998):  Mizuki is in a very misty place, and all she can see is a fence in front of her.  She doesn't know where she is, or why she's there, and can hear a faint melody.  She feels like she's been walking for a long time, and she doesn't know where, or what she should now, but she feels really tired and just wants to sleep.  Coming from the other side of the fence, she feels warmth, and thinks she's seeing a dream of contentment.  She looks for the entrance, but before she sees it, a small girl walks up to her with a very sad face.  She says she's looking for a cat, and it's very important to her. Mizuki says she'll help her look, so don't cry.  Mizuki asks her if she knows who's playing the guitar, but the girl can't hear it.  Mizuki then sees the cat coming from the other side of the fence and shows the girl. The girl is very happy, and runs off with the cat, saying thank you.  The she vanishes, and Mizuki stares after her, thinking that she was cute and wondering who she was.  She thinks that maybe the girl was an angel, though she didn't have wings.  She wishes she had asked the girl how to cross the fence, because it feels like the guitar is calling her.  Suddenly, the cat is beside her again, and jumps through the fence.  Mizuki wonders where the girl is, and realizes that she's dreaming.  She wonders where she'll be, and who she'll be, when she wakes up.  Then for just a second, on the other side of the fence, she sees Adam, dressed as he was that last night, and wonders again if this is a dream.  She calls out for someone to open the fence, and thinks that that person is calling her, and she asks herself what his name was.  She thinks he was always playing the guitar and singing, her blue-eyed lover, and remembers: Adam. On MTV, Adam is onstage, playing with his band.  The video ends, saying it was Last Quarter by Evil Eye.  Hotaru(the girl from before) wakes up, having seen a bit of the video. She's in a hospital.  Her mother is there with her, and a nurse tells her she was in the hospital for three weeks, and c ongratulates her on leaving.  A doctor asks if anywhere hurts still, and tells her to be careful from now on around cars.  The nurse says she hopes she finds her cat soon.  Hotaru thinks that her first hospital stay wasn't as bad as she had feared, the doctor and nurse were very kind.  Also, her mother visited every day during lunch, being together more than usual made her happy.  She almost wishes she could stay in the hospital a bit longer.  In the car going home, her mother's coworker says it's good, her injuries weren't serious and she'll be able to make the first day of classes, which is in two days.  She's going into fifth grade.  Her mom says the doctor's son, Tetsu, is also going to the same school and asks if Hotaru knows him.  Hotaru says yes, but we're not in the same class.  He's w ell-known because he's good at soccer, and very cheerful and popular.  Her mom's coworker says she should try to snag him, a doctor's son, and her mom agrees with her.  Hotaru thinks that she'd rather have Tetsu's friend Miura Masaki, who's cool and very adult-like.  She thinks it would be nice if she was in his class in Grade 5, and maybe she could talk to him a bit.  Her mother and her friend leave her at home, telling her to be sure to eat well.  Her mom's coworker says to her mother that she should have taken a couple days off, but her mother says she couldn't leave the store to to her young coworkers.  The other woman says I guess Hotaru can take better care of herself than we can, and her mother agrees, saying because she's my daughter.     Hotaru eats alone while watching TV.  Then she starts to practice piano, but the music is boring so she stops. She thinks that the video she saw on MTV today was good, and she wishes she could try playing that.  She wishes she had been able to see the band name clearly.  She thinks that the vocalist's eyes were the same colour as Ruru's(her cat) and thinks that she should wake up early tomorrow and search for him again.  Ruru has been with her since she was born, and is her most important friend.  She thinks of when Ruru suddenly disappeared, and she was searching for her, and the car hit her.  Then(I think) she falls asleep, and is again in that misty place, and sees Ruru.  Hotaru is running toward the cat when it changes into Mizuki, crying.  Hotaru remembers her from the other time, and then she wakes up.  She thinks that she's seeing weird dreams again.  She wonders if it's really a dream, even though her mom laughed at her when she said maybe it wasn't, and wonders why the girl was crying.  She peeks in at her mom, sleeping, and leaves a note saying she's looking for Ruru and she'll be back before dark.  She asks a flower lady if she's seen her, but she hasn't and turns to go, just as a customer walks up.  The flower lady thanks the man because he comes every day, and says she'll get the flowers.  It's Tomoki...     Hotaru is wandering around, thinking she should get home but probably she'll just be alone again, so she may as well look a little more, when she thinks she sees Ruru's head.  The cat disappears past a fence of an abandoned house, and Hotaru follows her.  She wonders if it's really Ruru, though it really resembled her.  She enters the house, and thinks it looks like a big house from a foreign movie.  She wonders why no one is living in it.  She thinks that it's pretty spooky, and wants to find Ruru and leave when she hears music.  She thinks it's the same song she heard on MTV the other day, and wonders who's playing it, so she goes closer and opens the door to the piano room, and it's a young woman(Mizuki).

Part 3 (June 1998): Hotaru thinks that even though the playing is quiet and sad, it somehow stands out.  She thinks she's never heard piano music that sad before.  The young woman is only playing one line over and over, and Hotaru wonders why.  Then a cat meows at Hotaru's feet, and Hotaru sees that it's not Ruru, even though it looks a lot like her.  She bends down to pet him and the young woman asks who she is.  They look at each other and recognize one another from the dream place, and the young woman says she wanted to see her again.  Hotaru is glad it wasn't a dream.  The young woman tells Hotaru that she's been living alone here so long, but then she says she's not alone, because Adam(the cat) is here.  Hotaru explains how she thought Adam was Ruru and followed him in.  For a second, the young woman thinks that Adam is Ruru, since it's not really her cat, it was just living here so she named it Adam, but Hotaru says Ruru's hair is longer.  Hotaru says when she woke up from that time, she was in the hospital bed but Ruru wasn't with her, and the young woman gives her the cat to hold to cheer her up. Hotaru introduces herself, but the young woman can't remember her own name.  She says when she woke up, she was in the house and couldn't take even one step outside it.  Hotaru doesn't understand, and thinks it's because the gate is locked, and the young woman gets upset.  She says if the gate is locked, Adam won't be able to get in.  She runs out of the room and Hotaru follows, not understanding that Adam isn't the cat.  The young woman gets to the front door, opens it, runs out and vanishes!  Hotaru can't believe her eyes, but then hears the young woman's voice behind her.  She turns and the young woman is there, saying that whenever she goes out that door, she comes back to this room.  The young woman wonders aloud if she'll stay in the same house for the rest of her life, and breaks down.  She tells Hotaru that she doesn't remember her name, age, address, her family or friends, only meeting Hotaru, her lover named Adam, and living in this house.  All Hotaru can do is hug her, and she says she'll come again tomorrow.  The young woman gives her a ring in friendship, and Hotaru puts it on her middle finger.  That night, she lay in bed, wondering what she could do for the young woman.  The next day was the first day of grade 5, and Hotaru meets her friend, Sae, there.  Hotaru is going to ask her advice about the young woman but first they talk about the new classes.  They're together again in Class 3, but Masaki is in Class 1, which disappoints Hotaru.  She sits down at her desk, and is thinking about the young woman while someone beside her is trying to get her attention because it's introduction time.  She finally realizes it, stands up and announces her name and that she's in Grade 5.  While the teacher reminds her that everyone here is in Grade 5, and the rest of the class laugh, the boy beside her seems surprised by her name.  It's Sugisaki Tetsu, the son of the doctor at the hospital.  They're seated beside each other.     After school, Sae and Hotaru and walking together, Sae saying it's good that Hotaru stood out so much on the first day, because normally she's so quiet people forget about her, when Tetsu greets them in passing.  He's with his friend, Masaki, and after the pass, the two girls hear him ask Tetsu which girl Hotaru is.  Tetsu tells him and Masaki says she's cute, which makes Hotaru blush.  Sae says it would be a good plan to become friends with Tetsu so she can hang around Masaki.  Then Sae remembers that Hotaru had something to tell her, and asks what it was.  She has to persuade Hotaru to tell her, and Hotaru recalls how they became friends.  In Grade 3, the boys were teasing her about having a tacky mom when Sae stood up for her and said that her mom was great because she worked all day and raised Hotaru all by herself.  From then on, Hotaru wasn't ashamed of her mom anymore, and she and Sae became best friends.     Hotaru has told Sae about the young woman, and they're at the house.  Sae says that they can surely help her with two of them working together, and Hotaru thinks that she's really glad that she bacme friends with Sae.  They get in the fence, though Sae has some trouble, and enter the house.  They meet Adam(the cat), and Sae pets him while Hotaru calls the young woman.  Adam bites Sae, and then Hotaru hears the piano coming from the other room.  Sae can't hear it though, and is starting to feel that this place is creepy.  Hotaru is worried because Sae can't hear the piano when it's so clear to her, and enters the piano room.  She sees the young woman though, and feels relieved.  The young woman greets Hotaru, and Hotaru says she'll introduce her to Sae, but Sae asks where the person is-she can't see anyone!  Hotaru tells her she's right in front of her, which makes Sae scream.  Sae asks Hotaru to leave with her, because this place is haunted and she's scared.  She pulls Hotaru away, trying to escape.

Part 4 (July 1998): Sae is pulling Hotaru behind her, running from the house, when Hotaru tells Sae to release her. She says she's going back, because she doesn't want the young woman to be alone.  Sae says that the young woman is a ghost and who knows what horrible things she'll do to you, but Hotaru says no, she's a nice person. She goes back, leaving Sae in the yard.  Sae thinks that she has to get help, but she doesn't know who to ask, because the police and her teacher won't believe her.  Her mom wouldn't believe her and doesn't think well of Hotaru anyways.  Her mom told her that Hotaru had a weird family situation and Sae shouldn't be friends with her. Sae thinks that she doesn't want to become like her mom, and then thinks of her dad, because she loves him, but he's always working so he can't help.  She thinks that, as always, she has to rely on herself.  She thinks of what Hotaru said, and thinks that maybe ghosts being bad is just a prejudice.  She hates prejudices, since her mom relies on them, and thinks she's not scared.  She walks back, thinking of all the reasons why she's not scared, and is going through the fence when someone taps her on the back.  She screams really loud, and surprises Tetsu, who tapped her.  He's with Masaki, and Sae thinks that they have wonderful timing.  It's fate, and Sae thinks that Masaki will be Hotaru's prince going to save her.  Then Masaki laughs at her because she screamed, and says there's no such thing as ghosts, and Sae doesn't like him much.  Tetsu and Masaki follow Sae, Tetsu saying that this house is rumoured to be haunted, and Masaki saying all empty houses are.  Sae says Hotaru isn't someone that talks nonsense, and Masaki says then she must be hallucinating, maybe an aftereffect of the accident.  Sae isn't pleased at Masaki insulting Hotaru, and thinks that he's a creep and conceited.  She thinks she hopes that he's taken down a peg or two, and calls Hotaru's name loudly from the foyer.  Hotaru comes down the stairs, but looks so freaked out that Sae runs to her.  Hotaru is just shocked to see Masaki though. Tetsu says they're here to help, and Masaki asks to meet the ghost, saying that just because Sae can't see it, maybe he and Tetsu can.  Hotaru says she's resting now, because of the shock, but Masaki ignores her and goes in the direction she came from.  Tetsu says Masaki is being rude, and Sae agrees with him.  Tetsu and Masaki get to the room, but can't see anyone other than the cat.  Tetsu says he should probably tell his dad(the doctor) and Sae gets depressed because she thinks there's something wrong with Hotaru. They're all about to leave the room when the three unbelievers stop dead.  The young woman is returning Hotaru's hat to her, and though the three can't see Hotaru, they see the hat floating in midair!  Hotaru gets her hat back and turns to leave with the others, but they're just standing dumbfounded.     Downstairs, they're all marveling at the truth of the young woman's ghost.  Sae tries to crow over Masaki, since he made such a big deal about ghosts not existing, but he apologizes for real and she doesn't know what to do. Then she thinks maybe he's not such a bad guy after all.  Hotaru says she's happy that everyone believes her now, but she can't enjoy small talk right now, and runs back up to the young woman's room, upset.  Tetsu is heartbroken, wondering what he did wrong, but Sae stops him from going after her.  Sae says she's crying from the shock that the young woman is a ghost, so there's no way to help her.  Masaki says may be they still can help her get to heaven.  Sae thinks he is pretty cool, and she'd better be careful not to fall in love with him herself, because he's Hotaru's prince.  Once in the room again, Masaki tells the young woman that they'll help her, even if they don't know exactly how yet.  He tells Sae to give her a pen and paper so she can write on it, to speak to them .  He asks the young woman to write her wish on it, and they'll try to grant it.     Outside once more, the four agree to keep this a secret, and Hotaru thanks them.  Masaki says it's still early for that, since they don't know if they can help her go to heaven.  Tetsu wonders if heaven exists, and Hotaru says it definitely does.  Sae wonders if heaven is the place that Hotaru met the young woman the first time after her accident, but thinks that she can't tell Hotaru that, because if it is, she won't see Ruru ever again.     The last panel shows the notebook, in which the young woman had written: I want to see Adam.

Part 5 (August 1998): The children, sitting in the living room with the young woman, try to sort out what they know and what they should do next.  They've decided to call the young woman Eve, since her lover is Adam.  Hotaru draws a picture of what Eve is wearing.  Then Hotaru examines the ring that Eve gave her, and finds the initials SK. So possibly those are Eve's initials.  Since Eve can't remember much about herself, they ask about Adam.  Eve tries to draw a picture of him, but she's very bad and they can't tell what he looks like at all(Tetsu can't even tell that's he's holding a guitar!).  They discover that he's a guitarist, and that the music Eve always plays on the piano is a song that Adam used to sing often.  Hotaru remembers it from her hospital stay when she saw the video, so she remembers what the lead singer looks like(Adam).  Hotaru says she'll learn how to play the piece on the piano and then tape it so the others can hear.  Then they decide to bring the tape to music stores and ask about the band and Adam.  Hotaru stays with Eve to practice, and the others go around the neighbourhood, looking for information about the previous owners.  Masaki discovers that the previous owners lived there about 20 years ago, and it was a family of three.  The daughter's name was Kamijou Sayaka, the same initials that are on Eve's ring.  Then Masaki, Tetsu, and Sae go and talk to an old woman who was a friend of the family.  She talks about Sayaka, who was a great pianist, and studied overseas in England.  She died of a disease when she was only 20 years old.  They manage to get a picture of Sayaka before she left for England, and run back to Hotaru to check it out.  They're very disappointed when they find out it's not her, though Eve herself can't tell, since the mirrors don't show her reflection.  That night, Tetsu's sister tells him that she saw a ghost at the house about a month ago, on the porch wearing a Sasahara Girl's Academy uniform.  Tetsu is shocked.  Back at the house, Eve has a dream about Adam, and she asks him who she is.  She thinks that Adam is her only true reality.

Part 6 (September 1998): Eve has a dream where she remembers Adam giving her that ring for her 17th birthday. At school, Tetsu races to tell Masaki the news from his sister, and reveals some things about Masaki.  His mom's a former idol, and his dad is a famous director.  Two years ago, they divorced, and one year later his mom married someone else.  Now Masaki lives along in that huge house with his dad, but usually his dad is on location so Masaki is alone.  Tetsu thinks that it must be hard, even though Masaki always acts okay and very adult-like. Tetsu has the feeling that someday, something in Masaki is going to break, and Masaki can't continue like this much longer.  Tetsu tells Masaki about his sister's information, and Masaki thinks it might have been the living Eve.  They figure out that the misty fenced place where Hotaru and Eve met might be the gates to heaven(or something like that), because Hotaru and Eve might have had a fatal(or close to fatal) accident about the same time.     In class, Sae doesn't seem too thrilled about the heaven idea.  She says it may be, but she doesn't want to tell Hotaru because Ruru was there as well, and if it's true, then there's a good chance that Ruru is dead.  During attendance, the teacher says that Hotaru is staying home with a cold.     Masaki is skipping class, and checking the newspapers for accident reports that occurred about the same time as Hotaru's.  He sees an ad for his father's latest movie, and looks less composed than usual.  Then he spots an article on Mizuki's accident.     During lunch, Sae calls Hotaru's house but there is no answer.  She's worried, and wants to check on her after school.  Then she and Tetsu meet Masaki, who asks Sae for the exact date of Hotaru's accident, and it turns out it's the same time as Mizuki's.  He wants to go to Sasahara after school to ask around, and brushes off Sae's protest that they should make a sick visit to Hotaru.  Sae gets really upset and runs away, and Tetsu thinks that Masaki has a bad way with words and prepares to go after her.  Before he can, Masaki has run past him and catches up with Sae.  He apologizes, and is surprised to see that Sae is crying.  He says she really cares about Hotaru, and Tetsu thinks that Sae wasn't crying because of her feelings for Hotaru, but for Masaki.  Tetsu reflects in class that he understands girls' feelings well because he reads his sister's manga, and that the previous scene kind of resembled shoujo manga.  Tetsu thinks that Masaki also is opening up to Sae unusually, but Hotaru's helplessness appeals more to him.     So after school, they call on Hotaru, but her mother answers the door in a black kimono and tells them that she's in the opposite park.  When they go, Hotaru is sitting, all in black, at the foot of a small grave.  A month before, Hotaru's mother had made it for Ruru without telling Hotaru.  But when Hotaru continued to look for Ruru after she recovered, Hotaru's mother had to tell her the truth, that Ruru was dead.  As the four of them kneel before the grave, Hotaru tells Sae that Ruru saved her life at the gates, preventing her from entering them.  Tetsu loudly and formally thanks Ruru for saving Hotaru's life, and tells Hotaru to as well, since Ruru is her saviour. He makes Hotaru smile, and realizes that he might be starting to seriously love her.     The four of them then head over to Sasahara Academy, but as it's so late, no one is around.  Tetsu sees two girls walking along, and stops them.  He's a bit intimidated by their delinquent looks, but it seems they know Mizuki, so he asks for her address so he can give his respects to the family.  One of the girls gets really upset and knocks him down, shouting that Mizuki isn't dead, and runs off.  The kids are depressed that they've chased a false lead, but Hotaru sees something on the ground.  It's a little picture that came off the girl's bag before she left, and it's a picture of her with Mizuki.  Hotaru recognizes her as Eve.

Part 7 (October 1998): Hotaru picks up the picture, and recognizes Eve.  It has her real name (Mizuki) above the picture.  She wonders if it fell off the girl's bag, and shows everyone.  Tetsu is celebrating because Mizuki is pretty :) and they're thinking about going after the girl when Masaki has an idea.  They look up Mizuki's home phone number uing the newspaper article, and call to ask about Mizuki.  They don't understand what's going on, since they think Mizuki is a ghost but her friend said she was alive.  Yui answers the phone and Hotaru thinks that the voice reminds of Mizuki's but is younger.  Hotaru asks for Mizuki, and Yui passes the phone to her mom.  Htaru isn't sure what to say, and tells Mizuki's mom that she's a friend, and that she just found out about the accident and called out of concern.  Her mother says Mizuki is in the hospital, still in a coma, and asks if they won't come and see her, and try to call her out of her sleep.     When they get to the hospital, the nurse says that visiting hours are over but they manage to get a few minutes. On the way to the room, the nurse tells them that the doctor doesn't understand why Mizuki is still in a coma, because her injuries are healed, and they really weren't that bad.  Hotaru thinks that if it is Eve, then there's hope. They enter the room, and Hotaru starts to cry because it's Eve.  Masaki says they still need some concrete evidence that it's Eve.  On the way back they decide to go back tomorrow and look more closely for evidence. Hotaru wants to go back to the house, but Sae has to go home because it's so late.  Her mom is really strict, and Masaki goes back with her because he's good at making excuses to parents.  Sae doesn't know if that's a good idea, but she goes...Hotaru and Tetsu check in with Eve, and Hotaru is happy to hear that Eve has remembered more of the song, as well as the fact that Adam gave her the ring for her 17th birthday.  When Hotaru gets home, she calls Sae to tell her, but Sae thinks it might have been just a dream because she's sure that Eve is Mizuki, and a birthday present would probably have her own initals on it.  Hotaru asks how things went with Masaki, and Sae is embarrassed before she realizes that Hotaru means to ask about if her parents were mad.  Sae says no, her mother even thought Masaki was a well-mannered boy.  After the phone call, Hotaru practiced Adam's song on the piano until late that night.     At the hospital the next day, all four try to think of a story that won't seem strange when they say they're friends with Mizuki.  Hotaru says she'll say she met her while she was looking for her cat, and Mizuki helped her, which is true.  They go in, and Yui is there.  Hotaru gives her some flowers, and Yui leaves to put them in a vase.  The four are talking about what to do next, when Masaki sees something.  He points to a dress on the wall and tells her to look.  Hotaru sees it, and it's the same dress and shoes that Eve is wearing in the house.  Yui comes in, and says that it's like the clothes that Mizuki always wanted, and her boyfriend brought them so Mizuki could leave the hospital as soon as she woke up.  She says he'll probably come visit soon, because he comes every day.  Then there's three knocks on the door, and all four children wait while it opens...and Tomoki walks in.

Part 8 (November 1998): The children introduce themselves to Tomoki, and when they find out his name is not Adam, Hotaru wonders if Eve is not Mizuki.  Tomoki speaks to Mizuki, asking her why she never introduced him to such cute friends.  Sae tells him that they only met her about one month ago, and all of them are surprised when Tomoki asks if they can tell him anymore about Mizuki when they met her.  Hotaru wonders if he suspects that they're not telling the truth, but then he explains that Mizuki had run away from home and nobody knew where she was at the time.  Yui says she stopped going to school and her part-time job.  Sae says then they were the last ones to talk to her before the accident, but Tomoki says no, he saw right before.  He says she was standing on the corner with a big handbag, loking as if she was waiting for someone.  Just as he was walking up to her, she started crossing the street on a red light.  Before he could save her, she was hit by a car.  He asks if they know who she was waiting for, mentioning that she had a passport in her bag.  Hotaru is thinking to herself that maybe they should tell Tomoki that she was waiting for Adam, because Hotaru knows that Mizuki is Eve, even though she can't explain it well to the others, she just feels it.  Before she says anything though, Masaki says that Mizuki showed them her ring like it was important to her, and it had initials on it.  He said he wondered at the time if the initals were those of her boyfriend, and muses that Tomoki would be TA, and he doesn't think they were TA.  Tomoki knows that the initals are SK, and says no, Mizuki has had that ring for a long time, and her father bought it for her from a pawn shop.  Yui shows the ring to them, and it's the same one that Eve gave to Hotaru(an invisible version).     On the way home, the children wonder if Adam knows about the accident.  Sae thinks that even if he does, he might not feel like he can visit Mizuki in the hospital.  Tetsu brings up the possibility that since Mizuki was bringing a passport to meet him with, he might be in another country.  Hotaru says that she can play the song fairly well now, and she taped it and brought a copy with her.  She can't play it for them at the empty house though, because the keys arereally stiff and she can't play on it.  Hotaru thinks that Eve will be really happy when she hears the news that they know who she is, and soon they can find Adam.  Hotaru thinks that surely, when Adam comes, Eve will return to her body, and everything will end like a fairy tale.     In the house, Eve is having a dream.  She dreams of speaking to her fluffy white cat, Marie, who is scratching the wallpaper off.  When she wakes up, Hotaru and the others have left a note, saying they'll come back later since she was sleeping.  Eve thinks that recently, she's been sleeping a lot.  When the kids come back, they tell her everything they found out and show her the picture of her and her friend.  Hotaru asks if she remembers anything now, but all she can remember is that she and Adam were going to go somewhere together.  She gets upset, and Masaki says probably she's just shocked from all the new information.  He tells Eve that they want to help her return to her body and her old life, but Eve seems reluctant.  She says that her lifestyle here is fairly comfortable.  Then she tells Hotaru about Marie.     Once outside, Hotaru says that Eve was acting strangely.  Tetsu says it was probably because of the new things they learned.  The children had listened to the tape, but none of them recognized it, so ty decide to go around to CD stores the next day(Sunday) and ask people there who the band is.nbsp;   Back at the house, Eve is thinking that living at the house is comfortable, she doesn't get hungry or thirsty, she's never especially cold or hot, and nothing hurts her there.  She thinks that it's a bit boring though, and remembers that there's a library.  She goes in and picks up a book, but all the pages are blank.  It's the same with all the other books.  Then she sees Adam(the cat), staring at a hole in the wallpaper, the same one that she saw in her dream...

Part 9 (December 1998): Eve stares at the cat, and remembers her dream.  Then somebody behind her speaks, she whirls around, and sees a man sitting at the desk.  She calls him Papa, but then he vanishes and she wonders if it was just a hallucination.  She runs out of the library and down the stairs calling for Papa and Marie, and meets a middle aged woman coming up.  The woman tells her that Papa will be coming home late because of work.  Eve recognizes her as her Mama but before she can reach her, the woman disappears as the man did.  Eve falls down the stairs,nd when she wakes up, she's back in the library with Adam the cat.  She wonders if it's a dream, but decides it's not, and getting closer to the desk, looks at a picture on it.  It's a family portrait with Papa, Mama, and a little girl, but Eve can't quite make out her face. nbsp;   When she tells the children about it later, Masaki tells her it was a delusion.  Sae says that no one has lived here for 20 years, so there's no way she could have lived here with her parents.  She says surely Adam the cat was the one who damaged the wallpaper.  Tetsu suggests that maybe there's a room like this in Mizuki's family's house. Masaki says she doesn't have to try so hard to remember, she should just trust them and try to get back to her own body.  Hotaru says just because she was wrong about the house, maybe her parents really are those people she dreamt, and asks Eve to draw a picture of them and Marie. nbsp;   Outside the house, they're talking about Eve's visions.  Masaki thinks she's just seeing things, and Hotaru says maybe she'll go to the hospital.  Since it's Sunday, maybe Mizuki's parents will come, but Sae points out that Hotaru is the only one who really knows what Adam looks like. Masaki says he'll go to the hospital, since he's worried about that as well, and Tetsu wants to go with him but Masaki says he might say too much again.  Hotaru volunteers Sae to go with Masaki, and even though Sae isn't too happy, she goes.  On the way to check out CD stores, Hotaru wonders if she's done something wrong to Sae(concerning Masaki), and Tetsu asks what.  She evades the question, and Tetsu says they're good friends, so of course they're going to cause eachother problems and need helping, that's what friends are for.  Hotaru thinks that even though she liked Masaki for so long, now she thinks Tetsu is just as cool, and sometimes is very mature.  She thinks though, that if she told Sae that, she would be appalled, since even she herself is.  Tetsu and Hotaru go to many shops, large and small, working farther into the city, but have no luck.  Hotaru and Tetsu are sitting at the foot of a monument, and Hotaru is depressed.  She says maybe it's because her piano playing was bad, and says she doesn't want to go back and see Eve's sad face again.  Tetsu tries to cheer her up when Hotaru is paged by Masaki and Sae.  On the phone, Masaki says that they met Mizuki's parents, but couldn't talk much to them.  They seemed really reserved.  He says that they didn't look at all like Eve's pictures, and had never bought a cat.  Then he asks Hotaru if maybe the video she saw on MTV wasn't really Adam, that maybe it was just someone that looked like Adam singing a similar song.  He says if the rest of Eve's memories are nothing but hallucinations, then maybe Adam only exists in her mind.  Hotaru gets really upset, and asks Masaki not to say things like that.  She starts to cry, and says that she'll definitely find Adam, and if Adam doesn't exist, then Eve will die.  Then Tetsu takes the phone, and everyone agrees to meet in a square where Tetsu and Hotaru are.  Hotaru thinks that she's acting like a child, and is embarrassed, but also thinks that if she was doing this alone, she wouldn't have been able to come nearly this far. nbsp;   When they meet, Masaki tells Hotaru that since the rest of them can't see or hear Eve, they can only infer her existence from the available evidence.  But Hotaru can her slightest expression change or gesture, and knows the most of her heart, and so he thinks that they should consider her opinion the most important.  Hotaru thanks them, and Sae says they're all comrades.  Then Masaki shows the ghettoblaster they brought, and says that they should go somewhere with lots of people, and just ask everyone.  They're discussing where to go, because though the square is very busy, the noise from a huge TV screen above interferes.  Masaki suggests a subway station, and Hotaru says that if they bother people there, they might get mad.  The others says it's okay, kids are supposed to bug adults, and Hotaru's laughing when she hears music from the huge screen.  Then the rest hear it, and they slowly turn around to see Adam on the big screen, singing that song.  Everyone around them seems to like it, and Hotaru wishes that she could let Eve hear this music, and swears that she will find Adam and bring him to Eve.  The song ends, and the video info comes up: Last Quarter by Evil Eye, Reissue Disc on Sale May 21.

Part 10 (January 1999): The children go back to one of the CD stores to order the CD.  They find that there are no other CD's by Adam's band, and the clerk says that 'Reissue Disc' means that it used to be on LP (record) and now they're releasing it on CD.  The children are shocked when the clerk tells them that this means that the album was first released more than ten years ago, and later wonder what it means.  Tetsu says Adam must be pretty old by now, and who knows where he is and what he's doing.  Hotaru suggests they look at a music magazine, and Masaki says his house is probably the best place to look for one, since the library is closing soon.  Hotaru tells Sae that maybe she should go home, since it's getting late, but Sae says if she goes home now she won't be able to sleep.  So they all go to Masaki's apartment, where he essentially lives alone since his father is away so much. Hotaru thinks it's kind of like her, since her mother is always working.  Masaki turns on his computer and searches on the Internet, but there's 485 matches for 'evil eye last quarter'.  So Masaki starts plowing through every one, while Sae looks up the meaning of the names in an English dictionary, and Tetsu orders some food.  It gets late and later, and Hotaru asks if Sae will really be okay with her mom.  Sae says she called and said she would be late, and anyways she's so late now a little more won't make much of a difference.  Then Hotaru asks Masaki if he can take Sae home again(against Sae's protests), and Masaki says okay, he only has to check one more site.  They check it, and it has information on the band.  It says the lead singer, Adam, died 19 years ago when he was only 20. nbsp;   At the house, Eve thinks that Hotaru is late, and wonders if they gave up today.  She wonders if they found anything about Adam, and tells the cat that just finding out where he is now would be fine.  She says she would grow wings and fly to his side.  As she goes to sleep, Eve hopes to dream of Adam. nbsp;   At the apartment, the children don't know what to think.  Sae says it must be a mistake, and Hotaru asks herself if they're really helping Eve.  She says if Eve knows that Adam is dead, she'll follow him into death, and asks if there are any words of hope and strength that can stop Eve, and says she doesn't know any.    While walking home with Masaki, Sae asks if Masaki really thinks that all of Eve's memories are wrong.  She says maybe if Mochizuki Mizuki was a big fan of Evil Eye, she could just be dreaming that she's Adam's girlfriend, but Sae doesn't think that things are that simple.nbsp;   Tetsu and Hotaru drink some hot milk while they wait for Masaki to come back, and Tetsu asks if she should go home as well.  Hotaru says it's okay, since her mom works until opening.  Tetsu thinks of what Hotaru said before about Eve, and almost starts to cry.  Before he does, Hotaru notices something on the computer.  Their e-mail to the record company asking for more information about Adam has been answered.nbsp;   In the house, Eve dreams of Adam.  She's telling him she's happy he came, and that she can see his face at the end.  She tells him not to cry, because she will surely soon be reborn and return to him.  Says she loves him, and Adam says, "Sayaka...", and Eve wakes upnbsp;   The e-mail says that Evil Eye's album was originally called My Dear Sayaka, and was dedicated to Adam's girlfriend, Sayaka, who died of illness. lt also says(I think) that Evil Eye will be shown on such and such a station at midnight, so Masaki sets up to tape it.  Tetsu reminds Masaki that the daughter who used to live in the abandoned house was named Sayaka, and says he can't think that it's coincidence.  He says maybe the dreams that Eve is seeing are the memories of Sayaka, and Eve is being possessed by Sayaka.  Masaki says if that's true, then the children can't help Eve by themselves.nbsp;   At the house, Eve wonders why she forgot such an important thing until now.  The dress she's wearing was Adam's favourite, and her current hairstyle was also praised by Adam.  She looks in the mirror, and Sayaka's face is reflected back at her.  She thinks that all she has to do is obtain some wings, and as she promised, she'll be at his side.

Part 11 (February 1999): The children have discovered that Adam's lover was indeed the Kanjou Sayaka that grew up in the abandoned house.  The guys made sure by asking the old woman who knew Sayaka's family.  At Masaki's house, they talk about what to do next.  They think that probably Eve's concern for Adam came from Sayaka's ghost, so if they get Sayaka's ghost to leave, Eve will be able to return to Mizuki's body.  Hotaru is afraid of what will happen if this doesn't work, but she seems to be assured by Adam's image on the TV that everything will turn out right.  They all go to the house, but Hotaru delays telling Eve the truth, not wanting to be separated from her.  Finally, Masaki tells her the truth, and asks Sayaka inside Eve to go to heaven because Adam is surely waiting for her there.  Slowly, Mizuki and Sayaka, both inside Eve, separate, and we see Sayaka's memories being replaced by Mizuki's.  But Sayaka's are all happy, while Mizuki's are mostly painful.  Eve begins to disappear, becoming transparent, and Hotaru watches crying.  The other children are happy, and want to go to the hospital to see Mizuki return to her body.  Hotaru hugs Eve and says soon it will be okay, she will be able to return to her old life, but Mizuki says no.  She doesn't want to go back to such a horrible life, she has to go to Adam as soon as possible.  Will Mizuki return  her body, or will she let go of her physical body totally and go to heaven?

Part 12 (March 1999): Sae, Tetsu, and Masaki are on the way to the hospital to see if Mizuki has woken up. They're in a good mood, and they wonder if Mizuki will remember them at all. Masaki says it would be better if she didn't, even though it will be hard for Hotaru. Sae wonders who Mizuki was living with in the house, since it couldn't be Adam, and Masaki says who knows but they'll surely find out everything soon. They're almost at the hospital when they see a car with Mizuki's father in it going past, and think that surely he's there because Mizuki is waking up. When they get inside though, it seems something terrible has happened.  Mizuki's condition has worsened, and everyone is waiting in front of the intensive care ward, because visitors aren't allowed inside now. As the children follow Mizuki's father and see everyone sitting in the waiting room looking very sad and depressed, Masaki thinks that at that time they didn't know why this had happened, but they knew they had made a terrible mistake. Masaki thinks that when Eve became transparent, maybe it wasn't because she was returning to her body, but because her life force was weakening-because the children had told her about Adam. He thinks that they've committed an unforgiveable error. Mizuki's friend, crying, saying that if Mizuki dies it will be her fault, and says it would be better if she died instead. Tomoki stops her, telling her not to talk about dying at a time like this. Aya, Mizuki's friend, blows up at him, saying he can't say anything, since he committed the same offense(as Aya). Tomoki's friend asks her to stop, saying Tomoki is already suffering enough already, and Aya is suffering enough already as well. He says it's no one's fault, it was an accident, and Masaki remembers that this whole thing did start because of a chance occurrence, but still it feels like it was meant to happen. Masaki wonders why it feels like they're all being manipulated by some great darkness, and thinks of all the unanswered questions: Who was Mizuki going to meet that night with a passport, who did she spend those two weeks in the abandoned house with, and why hasn't that person showed up at the hospital yet? He remembers Hotaru saying that Eve said she lived in the house together with Adam, and wonders how such an impossible thing could happen. Back at the house, Eve tells Hotaru that she first met Adam on the evening of her 17th birthday. She had just broken up with Tomoki, and was walking around Shibuya feeling lonely enough to die. Even so, she was crying, she could only laugh. She looked up at the full moon, and heard Adam's song-Last Quarter-the song Adam wrote for her. Hotaru says Adam wrote it for his girlfriend Sayaka, and Eve agrees, saying he wrote it while she was in her sickbed, telling her to get better so she could play it on the piano for his album. Eve continues, saying it became a requiem instead. Hotaru asks why she's ta lking as if she's Sayaka, when she's Mochizuki Mizuki, and has Mizuki's memories back. Eve says it's surely because she lived and died as Sayaka, and was reborn as Mizuki. She says Adam knew that, and that's why he came to meet her. Hotaru says that was just a phantom that Mizuki saw, and Eve says Hotaru doesn't understand anything-that Adam saved her from her loneliness, and the two weeks they lived together are her reality, and that that night Adam was waiting for her. If the accident hadn't happened, she might have been able to go with Adam. Hotaru tells her to stop it. Hotaru says she doesn't understand anything, that she should have known how important Adam was to Eve, but that Eve doesn't understand either. Everybody is waiting for Mizuki to wake up, not just the four of them, but Mizuki's parents, Yui, Tomoki, her friend, and everyone, and if Eve goes to where Adam is, they'll all be very sad. Eve says that's not true, and Hotaru protests, but Eve says that Adam is the only one that needs her, and even if she's the only person that can see Adam because he's a phantom, she'll search for him and find him, the way Hotaru found her. Hotaru asks how she'll do that if she can't leave the house, and Eve says it will be difficult to find Adam but she'll leave the house forever(I think). Eve thanks Hotaru for everything she's done, and says thanks to the four of them, she's made up her mind. Hotaru thinks that Eve is wrong, that's not why they did all this, but Eve disappears. Hotaru races through the house looking for her, thinking that this wasn't supposed to happen, everything was supposed to work out, and blames herself for not understanding Eve better. Eve is nowhere to be found, and Hotaru thinks that if Eve never returns it will be her fault. At the hospital, Tetsu thinks they should go back to the house and check, and Masaki agrees, saying he'll go. Tetsu wants to go too, and Masaki doesn't want him to, but Tetsu shouts that he's worried about Hotaru. Everyone in the waiting room looks up, and Aya recognizes them from the other day. Miura and Tetsu leave, and Sae watches them. Someone comes up behind her; it's Tomoki; he apologizes for not noticing them before. They go to the lobby, and Tomoki asks if Yui contacted them. Sae says it was just coincidence, and Tomoki gives her some tea. He asks if something happened to Hotaru, and Sae, stumbling over her words, says not really, but now that Tetsu and Masaki will check on her it's probably okay. Tomoki asks if she's frightened of him or something, and says maybe he appears suspicious. Sae denies this, and Tomoki says that even at this critical time, there are so few friends that have come. He says Mizuki always had her guard up and didn't make many friends, and everyone thought she was cold. He thanks Sae for the group of them always coming, and says if she has something else to do, it's okay if she leaves, but Sae says she'll stay on behalf of Hotaru and everyone. Tomoki suddenly gets tears in his eyes, and says he can't seem to get ahold of himself. He hangs his head, saying even though he's been with Mizuki for so long, he can't do anything for her. He says maybe if they could find the person she was waiting for, the person she was with for those two weeks, they could find him and bring him here, and maybe he would be able to call Mizuki back. Sae looks at him for a long while, and then says that she's going to tell him some very strange things, and asks him to just listen until she's done... At the house, Tetsu and Masaki find Hotaru alone, holding the cat Adam. She is crying too much for them to understand what she says at first, and Tetsu kneels down and apologizes for leaving her alone before. Hotaru grabs onto Tetsu and holding on for support, says it's okay, she can tell them now. Masaki thinks that for someone in a crisis, they rely more on feelings than cool judgement. Hotaru tells them what happened, and Tetsu wonders if this was all the doing of Adam's ghost. Masaki says who knows, but it doesn't matter, the main cause of the troubles is the weakness of Eve's heart. He says that as long as Eve didn't really want to live, they couldn't really help her no matter what they did. In the hospital, Sae tells Tomoki that he might not even believe what she 's going to say, but asks him to help Mizuki...

Part 13 (April 1999): Sae has told Tomoki everything, and she says she guesses it’e really hard to believe, but that there is evidence even though she doesn’t have it with her. Tomoki says hearing it at a time like this has made his mind spin. Sae says she told him because of the current crisis, and says she’s going. She thanks him for the tea, and gets up to leave. Tomoki says even if her story is true, he can’t do anything to help them, because Mizuki doesn’t trust him and doesn’t care about him anymore. Sae tells him that’s just an excuse because he has no confidence. Sae is called over the intercom for a phone call, and leaves. Tomoki thinks back to when he and Mizuki weren’t going out yet, and she lent him her umbrella. He jokingly asked if she liked him, and she said yes. Then she said it was a joke, but he’s always cheerful and she likes that. Then later in class, the boys were talking about her, saying she’s beautiful and nice, and Tomoki said she was his. Then he asked her out to a movie, and on that date, he bought her a ring, and that’s how their relationship started. When they were studying for high school exams, she was disappointed that she couldn’t get into S High School with him. It shows them in bed together, Mizuki saying that she wished they could be together 24 hours a day, and that if Tomoki is with her she doesn’t need anything else. In the hospital, Tomoki remembers all this and cries... On the phone, Sae finds out that Eve disappeared, and Masaki, Tetsu, and Hotaru are going to see if she went to where her accident happened. Masaki asks Sae to find out the exact spot, and Sae agrees. In the other room, Mizuki’s friend Aya(whom Tomoki cheated on Mizuki with) goes to Tomoki but he tells her to stay away. He remembers Mizuki telling him that Aya was really serious about him, and that he should at least talk to her, since it didn’t make a difference now. He apologizes to Aya, and she says he doesn’t have to, she understands that he doesn’t really care about her. She says she should apologize as well for telling Mizuki, and says that Mizuki smiling and laughing with her was too hard, and that’s why she told her. Tomoki says it’s his fault, not hers, and that he didn’t realize that cheating on Mizuki was bad until something so terrible as this happened. Sae comes running up and asks Tomoki where Mizuki’s accident was, and Aya gets angry at her. She tells Tomoki about when all four children came to her school and asked about Mizuki, and Sae apologizes, saying then they thought Eve was a ghost. Aya has no clue about this, and says she thinks there’s something wrong with Sae, and Sae responds that she doesn’t care if they think she’s weird, she just needs to know the place. Tomoki tell s her, and asks her why she wants to know. Sae says she doesn’t have time to explain, and she has to call the others, and Tomoki offers her his phone. With Aya and Tomoki watching, Sae calls Masaki. Aya asks Tomoki what’s going on, and he says Sae doesn’t seem weird to him. Aya says actually Sae seems smart, but... On the phone, Sae tells Masaki and then asks to speak with Hotaru. She asks Hotaru to tell Eve something if they find her: Sae wants to hear Eve’s voice, and see her face, laughing and angry, but unless she returns to Mizuki’s body, she won’t be able to. Since they’ve tried to make Eve’s wishes come true, Eve should make this one wish of Sae’s come true. Tomoki, watching, remembers several hints that the children gave to what they were doing; the ring, the visit to Mizuki’s school, and Sae’s certainty about what she was saying. Tomoki walks up to Sae and tells her that it would be better to go to the place herself, and that he’ll bring her. She can tell him what’s happening on the way, and he’ll make her wish come true. In the car, Hotaru says that Masaki once said that no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t do anything if Eve didn’t want to live. She thought that too, but she wants to believe that their feelings can move Eve’s heart. She wants to believe that their wishes can become Eve’s will to live. At the intersection, Eve is looking at the place where Adam was standing that night. She thinks that perhaps it had just been an illusion, but she was thinking only of him. She wonders why she was unable to go with him then, and wonders what she has to do to make him appear again. She thinks that now she’s an illusion, and asks herself why she still exists on this earth. She thinks that she has no more strength, and thinks that maybe if she just waits there a little, she’ll become able to go to where Adam is. At that moment, Hotaru runs to her from behind and tries to hold her, but her hands pass through Eve and Hotaru falls to the pavement of the crosswalk. Masaki and Tetsu catch up to them, and Hotaru and Eve try to hold hands but can’t. A car blares its horn trying to get them out of the middle of the street, and Tetsu pulls Hotaru to the sidewalk. Masaki asks Eve to come with them so they can talk, and Eve thinks that she can’t move her legs, and she can’t speak. From the sidewalk, Tetsu and Masaki holding her back, Hotaru shouts that Sae said she wanted to hear Eve’s voice and see her face, and that they want to become friends with Mizuki. She says Eve isn’t alone anymore, she has them, and pleads with her to return to Mizuki’s body. Eve is crying, and the moon comes out from a cloud. Eve looks at it and sees Adam, hears his voice call her name and ask her to come with him. The light changes and the three children run out to her, and Eve says in her mind that being with them was really fun, and she’s not lonely, truly. But without her, Adam might be all alone, and she feels like he’s in a totally dark world, calling her. She wanted to be friends with them always, and disappears from the street, apologizing silently for going without even saying goodbye, while Sae and Tomoki are riding towards themon a motorcycle.
