Michael Crichton's Novels
|
|
For those of you who have never read Michael Crichton, his early novels centered on the medical field, while his later novels have expanded to thing such as dinosaurs and airplanes. He writes mostly fictional novel, though he has several nonfiction novels as well.
Airframe
Cruising 35,000 feet above the earth, a commercial jet encounters an accident that leaves 3 dead, 56 wounded, and the cabin in shambles. But nobody knows what happened. Casey Singleton is sent by her boss to uncover the mysterious circumstances that led to the disaster before more people die. But someone doesn't want her to find the truth... The plot of this novel was very good. The text bristled with authentic information, technical jargon, and the depth of detail Crichton's has become known for. But this time he went a little bit overboard. Unless you are very familiar with planes, the book is extremely hard to follow. We were totally lost throughout the entire novel because the airplane terminology was overwhelming. We gave it two stars.
The Lost World
It is now six years since the secret disaster at Jurassic Park, six years since the extraordinary dream of science and imagination came to a crashing end; the dinosaurs destroyed, the park dismantled, the island indefinitely closed to the public. But there are rumors that something has survived... This novel was Crichton at his best. It had all the action and suspense you'd expect from Crichton, and a little bit more. It is definatley a worthy sequal of Jurassic Park. We gave it five stars.
Rising Sun
During the grand opening celebration of the new American headquarters of an immense Japanese company, the dead body of a beautiful woman is found. The investigation begins, and immediately becomes a headlong chase through a twisting maze of industrial intrigue and a violent business battle that takes no prisoners... This was a new venture for Crichton. Usually the writer of medical realated novels, he switched to the political genre. And we have to say he succeded quite well. We gave it four stars.

Clive Cussler's Novels
|
|
For those of you who have never read Clive Cussler, his novels are similar to the Bond movies. They are a continuing series, with Dirk Pitt as the main character in each one.
Flood Tide
Like all of Cussler's other novels, it starts with an event that takes place many years before the story itself. The Princess Dou Wan, a chinese ship, slams into a terrible storm and is lost at sea, vanishing without a trace, and carrying a load of priceless wealth down with it. Back in the present, Dirk Pitt makes yet another enemy: the chinese smuggler Qin Shang. And Qin Shang is after a huge goal, one that, if accomplished, will kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people. And only Dirk Pitt can stand in his way...
As always, Cussler continues to amaze us. His talent for creating fantastic and unimaginable plots is amazing. A definate page turner, we recommend this and all of Cussler's novels for anyone. We gave this novel five stars.
