The Junior Woodchucks is a world wide organisation (for boys only). It was originally founded to teach young Duckburgians to uphold the ideals of doing good deeds, protection of the wild lands, and the preservation of knowledge. The Junior Woodchucks are widely known for their weird tittles (consisting for letters and dots) and for their endless number of merit badges. |

History:
The Junior Woodchucks is the organisation that Huey, Dewey and Louie are members of. It was founded around 1901 by Clinton Coot, who also gave them the raw material for their later so famous guidebook. The name "woodchucks" and other characteristics like their hats is inspired by the Woodchuck militia who guarded Duckburg and it's surroundings against any threats in the 19th century. Among the pioneer members was Fulton Gearloose (Gyro Gearloose's father).
In W.H.A.D.A.L.O.T.T.A.J.A.R.G.O.N. Don Rosa shows that Huey, Dewey and Louie joined TJW ca. 1951. In the 1950s and the 1960 The Junior Woodchucks, in Duckburg, had a bloodhound called General Snozzie. In that story Don Rosa also shows that previous members of The Junior Woodchucks as well as previous members of The Junior Chickadees, remains loyal to their ideals and values. This loyalty is shown when Scrooges workers threaten to quit their jobs in order to persuade Scrooge to save the remains of Fort Duckburg.
In The Guardians of The Lost Libary Don Rosa shows that the WJW logo (used in the American editions only) is orginated from the ancient Egyptian Ibis-bird.
The Scandinavian names for The Junior Woodchucks mean "woodpeckers" or some special kind of woodpeckers, but actually the woodchuck is a little mammal and member of the squirrel family.
Known rivals are The Junior Chickadees, a similar girls' organisation.
