It is a pleasure for me to dedicate this webpage to one of the best guitar builders in Spain.

He is part of a family that has been in this endeavor the longest without interruptions, since 1836

Vicente Carrillo Casas was born on July 31st, 1963 into a family that has dedicated itself to the building of stringed instruments since 1836, the year in which his great-grandfather Blas Carrillo Alarcón started in this line of work. When Blas passed away, his son Vicente Carrillo López continued his work and was who made the guitars from Casasimarro known on a national level. After his death in 1962, his son Vicente Carrillo Cantos continued his work and was able to take their guitars into internatinal markets, mostly the United States and Japan. In 1971 Gabriela Casas Fornier continued running the workshop, after her husband died, until 1983 that Vicente Carrillo Casas took charge of the family business.

Since he took over his workshop in 1983, Vicente’s concern and main goal has been to improve the sound quality of his guitars. He has had the opportunity to come in contact and exchange ideas with a number of Luthiers of the Madrid school, among them some from the Ramirez workshop, this way and by comparing head to head their instruments to his, he has been succesful in aquiring a very peculiar sound. As the years have gone by, the professional relationship with all these Luthiers has grown to a very close friendship. The bracing pattern he uses is based on the Santos Hernández (1873-1942) bracing pattern with a few modifications of his own, with the sole purpose of improving the sound quality of his instruments. At the present time his guitars are available all over the world, United States, Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Italy, Germany, France, England, Holland, just to name a few.

Vicente’s production is rather small due to the fact that all his work is totally done by hand, hence, being able to build only four to five first class guitars a month, either classical or flamenco.

The woods he utilizes in his instruments are: Indian Rosewood (Palo Santo de India, Palisander) or Brazilian Rosewood (Jacarandá, Palo Santo de Brasil, Rio) for the classical guitars and Spanish Cypress for the flamenco.

These woods have been dried in a natural way getting the time assured warranty for the unique sound of his guitars. In other words, these woods should be dried between 8 to 10 years although at the present he is working with woods in excess of 18 years old. It is quite interesting to visit his workshop and see how he still dries up the woods in a natural way, the heat of summer and the icy winters provide them with their unique caracteristics for a better sounding and built guitar.

He also builds besides guitars, a number of other instruments like lutes and other plectrum strumed string instruments. In Spanish, bandurrias, laudes, contralto, laudones and others.

His work has been recognized by numerous professionals in the guitar as well as plectrum instruments, in which among others are: Juan Francisco Garrido, Guitar Dean at the "Conservatorio Superior del Liceo de Barcelona", Jorge Casanova, Plectrum Instrument Dean at the "Conservatorio Superior del Liceo de Barcelona", Pedro Chamorro, master on plectrum instruments in Spain and highly honored graduate in the mandolin and chamber music in Luxemburg, and Miaguel Angel Sanz, Guitar professor from the C.S.M. at the Liceo de Barcelona.

An intersting fact is that it is said that in Casasimarro there is the only monument in the world dedicated to the guitar. This monument was honored in 1986 with a world class concert series in which the main instrument was the guitar and with the attendance of world renoun guitar performers.
