DYNATROL COMMAND CONTROL & DC Power
I purchased my Dynatrol system long before the release of the current DCC systems.
The MMRR can be operated using 2 different types of controls:
DYNATROL COMMAND CONTROL or STANDARD DC
I have 4 walkaround hand controllers for the Dynatrol
2 of the controllers are able to run up to 3 engines mued together
The other 2 controllers are designed only to run 1 engine at a time.
I have 6 jacks placed around the layout that I can plug the hand controllers into.
Eventually there will be jacks every 4 feet all around the layout. I currently
have 15 engine receivers as noted by the red plugs.
Each plug will activate an individual engine receiver when plugged
into the bottom of a hand controller unit.
The Dynatrol System is powered by an 8 amp 16 volt Signal Transformer tucked beneath the layout.
(I can almost arc weld with this transformer)
When running with STANDARD DC, the 1950's lever is used
Two 10 gauge wires run beneath the entire layout, with 18 gauge wire drop downs from the track approximately every 3 or 4 feet to maintain
constant flow of electricity.
There are 2 double pole double throw switches on the main panel. If I flip them both to MANUAL, the Dynatrol is disabled and
I am then able to run trains on standard 16 volt DC power via the 8 amp power pack and the throttle lever pictured in photo 3
Monitoring the power I have 1 amphere guage and 2 voltage gauges, they are depicted in the photos.
I have such good power flow that 3 Proto 1000 engines pulling 27 cars at full speed will only draw 1/4 amp.
The only main drawback to my setup is I cannot have any engines with the Dynatrol receivers
sitting on powered tracks when the MANUAL controls are used nor vice versa.
