 BLUE BATMOBILE FOUND IN FLORIDA!
(Somewhere in FL) - A unique example of a
long-rumored Mego Batmobile color variation was discovered in Florida this past weekend.
The lucky buyer, a longtime Mego collector in his mid-twenties, stumbled upon this
never-before-seen blue Batmobile at a midstate flea market.
"I was shocked!" said the collector, who
wishes to remain anonymous. "I spotted the blue plastic in a box underneath some
Beanie Baby dealer's table, and started digging because I needed a Batcycle. I just about
fell over when I pulled it out of the box and realized it wasn't a fake."
For years, Mego afficiandos have argued about the
existence of the blue Batmobile, largely fueled by fuzzy childhood recollections and
rumors of an Italian-only release. Some experts supporting the blue Batmobile theory point
out Mego's long history of making changes during the production life of their action
figures and vehicles. For example, the Batcycle was manufactured in both blue plastic and
black plastic. However, more cynical collectors pointed at the fact that, to date, none
have been uncovered or even photographed. That is, until this past weekend.
The lucky buyer has already had substantial offers
for his one-of-a-kind find. "I've been offered a complete set of Alter Egos, mint in
the original mailer boxes, for it, but it's tough to sell something that no one else in
the world has. Maybe I'll hold out for a French villa or something," he joked.
Not bad for his original investment! |

Long Lost Megos For years, Mego
collectors have heard rumors about various unproduced prototypes, color and package
variations, and European only exclusive Megos. Maybe you'll be the first to find one of
these rarities.
- Dr. Strange - This popular Marvel Comics sorcerer was sculpted, but no authentic
prototypes have been found. The sculpt, however, was used on Mego's Jordache line.
- Logan's Run - The license to this short-lived science fiction TV series was acquired
by Mego after it turned down Star Wars
- Planet of the Apes Taylor - This Charlton Heston character was believed to have been
either released in a Northeast test market, or a design prototype of an unproduced item.
No production pieces have been uncovered, but an original blister
card has been reported.
