CALAMITY JANE
talks Big M and Sunnyboys
A self confessed "crazy, kooky child" Calamity Jane
grew up in the 80’s fascinated by the popular world and religiously tuning
into Countdown for her fix of all the latest pop sensations and haircuts.
She happily cast her mind back to share a few memories from her life in
the 80’s............
Primary School Attended: Ivanhoe Primary
Status at your primary school was defined by.......
Who had chocolate cake in their lunch box.
Who was the daggiest kid in your school ?
Dinya Rowe (also known as Gooby Girl and Germ Ball)
Your most vivid primary school memory :
Performing the top 10 at school assembly (ie. top 85
top 10 - Wham, Spandau Ballet etc) and being severely reprimanded for it.
Your most memorable piece of 80’s clothing :
My Just Jeans (Juz)
White bubblegum stretch jeans.
Most loved pop record of the 1980’s :
Psuedo Echo’s - Autumnal Park.
Your favourite lunch order/ canteen menu :
A pie and sauce
A strawberry Big M
A tropical Sunnyboy.
Did girls like boys at your school or did they have
germs ? How did you prove that you did/didn’t like boys ?
Oh no, boys were definitely a status symbol. Exchanging
of love letters was the usual trip to a boys heart.
Were you in any "gangs" or secret clubs ?
Not really. There was the "007" club based on us being
James Bonds chasing Dinya Rowe.
What was your favourite lunch time / playtime activity
?
A game of "elastics", skipping or chasing Dinya Rowe around
the school.
Were you in any school productions ?
Heaps. Most vivid and biggest production was HMS PINAFORE
performed at the annual gala night. I had the lead role.
Did you have a nickname ?
Joyne (that’s how kids at school said my name with a horrible
Aussie twang)
Look out for Calamity Jane’s latest incarnation
as Disco Girl. A pop record soon. She’s ace on the radio too !
