As Lately We Watched


As lately we watch'd o'er our fields thro' the night,
夜ごと　草原を見つめていたら
A star there was seen of such glorious light.
ひとつの星が　輝きまして
All thro' the night, angels did sing,
天使の歌の　やむこともない
Carols so sweet of the birth of a King.
王の誕生を祝う　やさしいキャロル

A king of such beauty was na'er before seen,
美徳の王は　我らのもとへ
And Mary his mother so like a queen.
母マリアは　皇后のように
Blessed be the hour, welcome the morn,
この時を祝え　この朝を喜べ
For Christ our dear Saviour on earth now is born.
いまこそ　救い主イエスが生誕された

His throne is a manger, his court is a loft,
その王座は飼葉の桶　その宮廷は干し草の山
But troops of bright angels, in lays sweet and soft,
けれど　輝く天使の一群が　歌うよ甘くかろやかに
Him they proclaim, our Christ by name,
王を褒め称え　主の名を呼んで
And earth, sky and air straight are filled with his fame.
天も地も大気も　その栄光に包まれる

Then shepherds, be joyful; salute your new King,
羊飼いらは嬉々として　新たな王を礼賛する
Let hills and vales ring to the song that ye sing.
丘も谷も　その歌を響かせる
Blessed be the hour, welcome the morn,
この時を祝え　この朝を喜べ
For Christ our dear Saviour on earth now is born.
いまこそ　救い主イエスが生誕された
