THE BIRD BEINGS- OR THE FALSE GOVERNMENT		

When the original people of the Chickamaugans left the ancestral homelands they wandered
for a long time searching for the 'promised land'. When they tried to enter the lands that
were the promised ones, they were met by 'gatekeepers'- the Bird Beings. To enter these
lands they had to pass certain tests, which they did. Their 'passport' was a golden eagle
feather. It was to be carried by all their people as proof they had earned the right be on
these lands. When Dragging Canoe and others denounced the US Government part of it ws
based on the symbol the government had adopted- the bald eagle. To our people the bald
eagle is a false symbol of the right to be here. The ones before seeing this recognized
that the present government did not have permission from the Bird Beings to be here. Thus,
they denounced the US Government as a false one and resisted it to the end.
