Kanagatoga
Kanagatoga was the last royal 'chief' of the Cherokees. He inherited this title from his brother Moytoy. Since the British had
a hard time with Cherokee names, they gave them nicknames. Kanagatoga was called "Old Hop" because he had a limp. The
wily Old Hop and the dynamic Attakullakulla, Little Carpenter, were a formidable pair. Old Hop was an unselfish and
influential leader of his people. He used the Little Carpenter in his position of Peace Chief as his "secretary of state". The
Little Carpenter, whose influence was unbounded. always deferred to the judgment and wishes of Old Hop.
