Late 70's and Early 80's Grew out of Punk into its own style when old Punk music died. The spooky Punk kids were increasingly becoming more and more spooky. Some say Gothic Music only consists of this music type. Bauhaus, Christian Death, The Sisters Of Mercy, Specimen, Southern Death Cult, Skeletal Family, etc.
Industrial Tendency Towards:
  • experimantal
  • electronic
  • synthesizers
  • voice samples
  • distorted voices/sounds
  • aggressive
  • scientific
late 70's and 90's Industrial music came out of a record label in 76', but the subculture espects of it began in the 90's. Indusrial music is like Gothic Rock but just the other side of it (yin/yang). Much cross over between Gothic Rock and Industrial=Gothic Industrial. Throbbing Gristle, Front 242, Alien Sex Fiend, KMFDM, Project Pitchfork, Leatherstrip, Frontline Asswmbly, etc.
Gothic Folk Tendency Towards:

  • obscure instruments

80's and late 90's
it is very popular		 This type of Gothic Music didn't come out of another type it just emerged on it's own. It is not clearly defined either. In fact it is one of the broadest types that is encompaessed in the Gothic Subculture. Incubus Succubus, Skeletal Family, Death In June, etc.
Etereal Tendency Towards:

80's and 90's Same as Gothic Folk, it came about on its own. Started with Dean Can Dance. A more experamental attitude and a love for a more surreal way of life. Dead Can Dance, Love Spirals Downward, Switchblade Symphony, Love Is Colder Than Death, Kore, etc.
