It is located on the southwest area of the Yucatan peninsula, between the 17º 38' 44'' and 20º 47' 08'' parallels of west longitude of the Greenwich meridian. It is bounded on the north and northeast by Yucatan; on the east by Quintana Roo and Belize; on the south by Guatemala; on the southwest by Tabasco; and on the west and northwest by the Mexican Gulf . It has a territorial extent of 56,114 km2 (21,665 mile2) including many islands. Its name came from the Mayan word "Ah-Kim-Pech", that means "The sir sun jigger", but it pronunciation was difficult to the Spanish that called it Can Pech, that means "Place of snakes and jiggers". (Also could means "The place of the big snake BOA") Campeche has two kinds of climates; the sub-humid warm with rain areas on summer and at the beginning of fall that prevail over most of territory, on drought time it become emphasize by the warm winds convergence that come from the east and the southwest. On the southeast of the state, by Tabasco border, what prevail is the humid warm climate. From the City of Campeche you may go to Tenabo, Jaina, Lerma, Calkini, Zona Arqueologica Becan, Zona Arqueologica Chicanna, Ciudad del Carmen, Zona Arqueologica Edzna, Champoton, Zona Arqueologica Xpuhil, Hopelchen  and Bolonchen de Rejon.
