Background Colors: yellow: 16 vowels and diphthongs.   brown background: 24 consonants

Vowel positions in the modified alphabetical order are a little odd.  The arrangement works for
a, bar-a, and au, doesnt work that well for a, ei, o:

Vowel order for the 16 vowels could be chaged to :

A - 3
E - 2
I - 2
O - 4
U - 5

None of the sounds that English speakers associate with the letter A are found in Latin or in any other
European alphabet.    The Anglo Saxon ash [ae] has been one association, /ei/ is the other.

white background: key words which serve as acrophonic letter names as in ABLE, BAKER, CHARLIE…

Text colors: blue: NF spelling  red: silent letters green: an unused alternative spelling.
The sound in odd is imperceptibly shorter than the sound in art and alm. Since they are usually allophones
they are merged in NF. The continental sound value for a is /ah/  the same as the English one for o, also /ah/.

Lesson on the Vowel Quadrilateral and NuFolik
Reducing Inconsistency: Anyone who has given the topic any thought concedes that there are just too many orthographic options in English spelling and that spelling should be a better guide to pronunciation than it presently is. On the other hand, after spending 10 years learning how to speed read English word patterns, most literate people are relunctant to accept a change that will (temporarily) make reading more difficult and reduce their reading speed. The word patterns may contain inconsistencies but they have been learned.
Advantages Disadvantages
Easier to learn
Easier to spell
Easier to pronounce
Temporary loss of reading speed
Some relearning required
Loss of familiar spelling patterns
The only gains for the already literate is (1) the ability to pronounce unfamiliar words and (2) more confident spelling. Few would consider these gains worth the loss of familiar standard spelling patterns.

Cut Spelling retains the basic word shape but all phonemic notations change at least 60% of the word spellings.  The conventional wisdom is that the public will more readily adopt a small change than full alphabetic consistency or a major revolution such as the Shaw Alaphabet.

People will learn a new code if it is not that difficult to acquire and if they can immediately use it to communicate.  People have learned the Shaw Alphabet, but there are not many who are able to communicate in this medium.  Morse code used to be learned and used by HAM operators.  It is still learned as a license requirement, but with advances in technology rarely used.
