Where have I seen her before?: The all-American beauty queen is best Known For playing the heroine in 1986 fantasy Labyrinth

Tell me about the early stuff Jennifer Lynn Connelly was born December 12, 1970 in Catskills Mountains, New York. The daughter of Gerard, a clothing retailer, and Eileen Connelly, an antiques dealer, she grew up in Brooklyn Heights and attended Saint Ann school.

When she was 10, family friends suggested her parents take her to a modelling audition. This led Jennifer to a modelling career and she soon began appearing in magazine ads, and then later in commercials.

Okay, what has she done then? Made her TV debut in Tales of the Unexpected and her first movie appearance was in Dario Argento's Phenomena.

Appeared in the rock video I Drove All Night by Roy Orbison. Hit the big time when Muppet man Jim Henson cast her in his big budget fantasy adventure Labyrinth in 1986.

The Hot Spot, The Rocketeer and Mulholland Falls all kept the wolf from the door.

With a figure and looks to die for, she is now finally garnering the critical acclaim which has eluded her for so long, with roles in Pollock, Requiem For A Dream and Russell Crowe drama A Beautiful Mind, which earned her a Golden Globe. Currently working on Ang Lee's version of The Hulk, due for release next year.

She single? Dated Bill Campbell, her co-star in The Rocketeer for five years. Has been romantically linked with Russell Crowe. Has a four-year-old son called Kai.

Ouch: The film Higher Learning was one of her biggest flops.

However: Her son's budding career as a director looks promising: "We've already done plays together. Very short plays. He dictates them to me. Sometimes he casts me, sometimes he doesn't. And when I'm in the play, he'll sometimes say to me, 'No Mom, you didn't say that right.'"

Show me the eye candy Oh, if you must...
