Anders Ljungstedt: Historien om Macao och Ostindiehandeln On November 14 1999 the Swedish translation of Ljungstedt's book "An Historical Sketch..." was released in conjunction with the inauguration of an exhibition about Anders Ljungstedt at the Provincial Museum at Linköping. 363 pages, 6 maps, 2 photos, three illustrations by Ljungstedt's contemporary George Chinnery. In 1997 the Chinese translation was published and in 1999 translations into Swedish and Portuguese were also released. The Portuguese editon "Um Esboco Histórico dos Estabelecimentos dos Portugueses e da Igreja Católica Romana e das Missőes na China" was published by Camara Municipal de Macau Provisória. Hongkong 1992. XVI + 280 pp. 3 maps. 200 HKD. ISBN 962-7650-01-3 Ljungstedt's book, written in 1835 and published in Boston in 1836 was the first book on Macau's history that was ever published. It became famous because of the author's proof that Portugal had not acquired sovereign rights to Macau. Early Macau History (Zaoqi Aomen Shi) Ljungstedt's book was translated into Chinese and published in 1997 by Oriental Press, a subsidiary of the prestigeous People's Publishing House in Beijing. It was translated by a team of scholars at Sun Yat-sen University in Canton led by prof. Zhang Wenqin. The book has a long preface describing the book's role in clarifying Macau's history. 80 HKD/SEK The China Daily wrote on 1998-12-22 about the book: "Ljungstedt's book, one of the important founding works of Swedish sinology, is considered by Chinese historians to be the first Western publication about the history of Macao". Anders Ljungstedt och breven frĺn Kina This biography of Anders Ljungstedt was published in November 1999 by Stalgarden Publishing House in Sweden. The author is Harry Hellberg, formerly Dean of Anders Ljungstedt College. He has devoted several years to the study of Ljungstedt´s life and work. 87 pages. 150 SEK. ISBN 91-87262-23-6.
