Two streets have created links over history In 1994 a street was named in Linköping after Anders Ljungstedt, the first Western historian of Macau. Here are the two initiators, Bengt Johansson and Ove Lindgren at the opening ceremony. The street is located in the northern part of Linköping at the school he donated, "Anders Ljungstedts Gymnasium". The school was founded in 1824 financed by a donation by Anders Ljungstedt. It one of the largest secondary schools in Sweden. In November 1997 a street named after Ljungstedt was also inaugurated in Macau, by the the mayors of the two cities, Mrs Eva Joelsson of Linköping and Mr Jose Luis de Sales Marques of Macau. The street is located on a newly reclaimed land south-east of Hotel Lisboa. The remains after Sir Anders Ljungstedt are buried at the Protestant Cemetry in northwestern part of Macau. Photo of the street sign displayed. This is probably the only street in Macau named after a foreigner. Photo from the launch of the Chinese translation of Ljungstedt´s book (from left translator pofessor Zhang Wenqin, publisher Bengt Johansson, Mayor Luis de Sales Marques, Father Manuel Teixeira and College representative Gunter Hulse) sitting in front of the coat of arms of the city of Macau in the Leal Senado building. At the top of the coat of arms can be read "Cidade de Nome de Deo, nao ha outra mais leal" Father Teixeira wrote a preface to the English edition in 1992 and has been instrumental in the rehabilitation of Ljungstedt among Macau's historians. |
