Benjamin
Disraeli
(1804-1881)
Benjamin Disraeli was born in London, the eldest son of an antiquarian.
He travelled widely and, after trying to establish a newspaper,
the Representative, he began publishing novels. Disraeli made three
unsuccessful bids for Parliament before being elected as Tory member
for Maidstone in 1837. In 1839, Disraeli married. His novels were
now aimed at promoting political views. In 1868, Disraeli became
Prime Minister. Later in the year, he resigned his position, only
to rise to PM again from 1874-1880.
